Job Description
Bell Properties Inc. is a leading Californiabased property management firm with over a decade of experience managing residential and commercial real estate. Our mission is to provide exceptional service operational transparency and strong financial stewardship to our property owner and resident communities. We are expanding and seeking a detaildriven and strategic Controller to lead our financial operations.
Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Property Management Controller to oversee the full accounting lifecycle of our managed assets. This role is responsible for managing accounting functions including financial reporting budgeting internal controls audits and team leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills an understanding of real estate accounting and the ability to lead and mentor a growing accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight
- Manage all general ledger accounts payable/receivable bank reconciliations and monthend close processes
- Oversee preparation of propertylevel and consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Develop and monitor budgets forecasts and variance reports for managed assets
- Ensure cash flow is appropriately managed across all properties
Reporting & Compliance
- Coordinate annual audits and prepare required schedules for external auditors
- Ensure compliance with client reporting requirements and government regulations (HUD CTCAC etc.
- Create and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
- Lead yearend 1099 tax coordination and CAM reconciliations
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor a team of property accountants and accounting assistants
- Provide training process improvements and performance oversight
- Support onboarding of new properties and clients including financial setup and reporting configuration
Technology & Software
- Manage accounting system (Yardi) functionality and enhancements
- Leverage tools for workflow efficiency document retention and data accuracy
- Support integrations with thirdparty platforms (banking bill pay payroll)
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field (CPA preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in property management or real estate accounting
- 2 years of experience in a Controller or seniorlevel accounting role
- Strong understanding of GAAP accrualbased accounting and financial audits
- Expertise in Yardi Voyager (REQUIRED)
- Ability to analyze complex financial data and generate accurate reports
- Excellent leadership communication and problemsolving skills
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
- Willingness to work onsite in Arcadia office during onboarding 90day period) with WFH flexibility up to 2 days/week after initial training
