About the Unit
The Constant Observation Unit provides support to the Inpatient and Emergency Center by allocating staff that will supervise and monitor patient requiring continuous or one to one monitoring because of high risk of selfharm aggression or other safety concerns to ensure patient safety and wellbeing.

Scope of Work
The Patient Observation Aide under the supervision of an RN provides close observation of patients and assists in the provision of a safe and clean environment. Assists with activities of daily living unless the patient needs are beyond the Patient Observation Aides scope. The RN delegates to the Patient Observation Aide the patients identified care needs diagnosis visual auditory or language barriers as well as any special consideration (NPO bed alarms etc.. Maintains constant observation of the patients activity and behavior and communicates regularly to the nurse.
