Lumentum is seeking to hire an Embedded Software Engineer Coop/Intern for our Ottawa based WSS Embedded Software team.

The Opportunity

8month term (preferred): Sep. 2025 Apr. 2026

4month term: Sep. 2025 Dec. 2025

What Youll Be Doing

The Embedded Software Engineer responsibilities would include but not be limited to the following:

• Work closely with R&D teams to develop embedded software and ensure compliance to specifications.
• Work independently or in a small team to deliver technically challenging products.
• Designing implementing and supporting features in C on embedded platforms for high performance optical products.
• Work with hardware interfaces including sensors actuators communication buses (like UART I2C SPI) and peripherals.
• Applying best practices throughout the software lifecycle.
• Solving complex problems in multidisciplinary teams.
• Analyzing and characterizing software failures.
• Sharing your knowledge in the following technology areas: embedded software code reuse designing for test and support distributed and multithreaded system design unit test etc.

Education Qualifications

• 3rd or 4th year: Computer Engineering Computer Science and Electrical Engineering although softwareinclined candidates from other Engineering and Science disciplines would also be considered.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

• Motivated to succeed.
• Strong C programming experience.
• Strong experience developing and working with embedded systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with optical systems is an asset.
• Experience with QNX LINUX FreeRTOS and SYSBIOS is an asset.
• Experience with TI and Xilinx DSPs is an asset.
