JOB OPPORTUNITY: Childminder

About Our Opportunity:
The Childminder reports to the Community Kitchen Facilitator and Manager. This position is to assist in providing a safe healthy and positive learning environment for young children under 6 years old whose parents participate in the program.

Work Hours: Casual Hourly shifts depending on program needs
Salary: Grade 3 Step 1 range $19.05 to $20.40 per hour
Location: Richmond

What do you need to succeed
Education Training Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with children
Knowledge Skills Abilities
  • Collaborative Communication including teamwork & cooperation interpersonal communication diversity and cultural agility
  • Personal Effectiveness including integrity and ethical behavior personal resilience adaptability/flexibility commitment to learning
  • Personal Leadership including influence initiative judgment and decision making creativity and innovation

  • Knowledge of current Early Childhood Development best practices
  • Knowledge of community resources and services
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work with families and children with diverse backgrounds and needs
Additional Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
Essential Responsibilities
Program Support
  • Assist in planning and implementing a stimulating culturally sensitive and ageappropriate program to meet the needs of the children attending the programs
  • Assist in setting up and cleaning the room and help maintain safe and clean play equipment and materials
  • Develop positive and supportive relationships with clients families and group leaders and refer parents to community resources and opportunities
  • Learn the Emergency Procedure at the different locations where programs run and review it regularly with clients and staff
  • Process all registration forms for children and fill out the attendance sheet at the programs
  • Act in accordance with the policies and procedures of the program (i.e. client confidentiality safety maintaining professional boundaries).
  • Other duties as required by the Team Lead
Child Minding
  • Deliver quality daycare childminding for young children up to 6 years of age and on occasion young schoolagers
  • Provide encouragement in the development of the childrens literacy and English language skills while preserving their first language
  • Honour diversity by assisting with activities that encourage children to share their cultural heritage
  • Assist in providing school readiness activities to 35 year olds
  • Provide a welcoming environment to all program participants; become informed about the cultures including values traditions customs and childrearing practices of parents attending the program; model and communicate the approach values and philosophy of the childrens program
  • Liaise with caregivers regarding the care of the children
  • Prepare and provide nutritious snacks for the children
