Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION

Temporary Code Enforcement Officer I

The County of Riversides Code Enforcement Department has an opportunity for a Temporary Code Enforcement Officer I in Riverside. The selected candidate will provide support by ensuring compliance with County land use investigate complaints contact property owners in reference to ordinance requirements document code and ordinance noncompliance maintain records and confer with other agencies and County departments as outlined in the job specs.

The
Code EnforcementDepartment is responsible for protecting the health safety and welfare of residents in the unincorporated areas of Riverside County.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Ensure compliance with County land use housing zoning abatement and nuisance codes and ordinances by receiving recording and investigating complaints regarding noncompliance.

Contact property and business owners to schedule and conduct onsite inspections; advise residents business representatives and other parties of ordinance requirements and seek to gain voluntary compliance through information and education efforts.

Document code and ordinance noncompliance by taking photographs measurements and recording all pertinent information from the parties involved; issue notices of noncompliance and when necessary citations; prepare clear concise and comprehensive files records reports and correspondence.

Maintain records of inspections and compliance efforts; prepare required documentation for legal actions; may testify in court or administrative proceedings regarding code or ordinance noncompliance; perform followup actions as needed to ensure compliance.

Confer with related agencies and County departments on disposition of complaints and code noncompliance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: One year of technical experience performing duties involving land use zoning building inspections public safety code enforcement administration of justice or abatement work. (Completion of undergraduate coursework from an accredited college or university substitute for up to one year of the required experience on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of the required experience.

Knowledge of: State laws and municipal and County codes and ordinances governing land use and zoning; the elements of planning and zoning; techniques of investigation including interviewing and fact finding related to code and ordinance compliance.

Other Requirements

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Drivers License may be required.
Completion of P.O.S.T. approved P.C. 832 training prior to completion of the probationary period.
