Yosemite Pathology (YP) is a private independent pathologist owned and operated surgical pathology and cytology laboratory based in Modesto CA. YP provides comprehensive state of the art reliable and accurate diagnostic services to its physicians and major area hospitals in the Alameda Amador Calaveras Contra Costa Kern Mariposa Merced San Joaquin Solano Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties.

YP offers a full spectrum of tissue pathology cytology and histology services including examination of gynecologic specimens body fluids and fine needle aspiration specimens. We also offer an extensive array of special stains and immunohistochemistry to assist in the management of oncologic and nononcologic diseases. The laboratory is supported by highly qualified Histotechnologist Cytologist Technicians and office staff who offer excellent service.

Summary/Objective

The Laboratory Aide provides support services to various departments by performing tasks and activities within the laboratory. This position is responsible for maintaining and organizing slides and blocks as well as preparing cases to be sent to the appropriate Pathologist for diagnosis.

Essential Functions

• Provide support to laboratory departments to assist in efficient operations
• Maintenance and organization of slides and blocks including labeling filing and quarterly storage rotation
• Block and slide reconciliation for delivery to pathologist
• Daily cleaning of work area
• Maintenance of histology equipment
• Printing Doctors requests from LIS and retrieving corresponding block to be cut by Histotechs
• Prepares requisitions for demo by secretaries
• Data entry for QA log documentation
• Organization and distribution of supply orders
• Check appropriate tissue blocks to their requisition or manifest
• Send out all levels recuts and tissue blocks that are requested through Orchard to appropriate hospitals
• Create storage boxes for tissue blocks
• Daily cleaning of work area
• Coverslip any slides that are requested for cover slipping from hospitals
• Send control slides to pathologist to be examined
• Answer phones relaying messages to the correct person and taking down any verbal request
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements and Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent required Associates Degree preferred)
• Previous experience in a laboratory setting
• Detail oriented professional attitude reliable and ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to interact with employees in a professional manner
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Strong computer and applications skills
• Laboratory Information System experience a plus

Compensation and Benefits:

• The compensation is $43680 annually (nonexempt paid semimonthly on an eight 8 hour per day forty 40 hour per week. Final salary offer subject to multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise geographic location of the role and current market data.

Work Environment

Requires prolonged sitting some bending stooping and stretching. Requires eyehand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard photocopier telephone and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eye sight to record prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Requires dexterity to type 60 wpm.

While performing duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand walk use hands to finger handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
