Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations Danbury Hospital New Milford Hospital Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut and Northern Dutchess Hospital Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York.
Purpose:Performspatient care activities and nonprofessional services. These include addressing the personal physical and emotional needs of the neonate pediatric adolescent adult or geriatric patient and family. Practice must be consistent with the philosophy goals policies and procedures of the Nursing Department and Medical Center served based on scope of services in the department.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- AHA BLS healthcare provider certification required within 90 days from DOH
Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities Requirements:
- General knowledge of high school subject matter including sciences simple medical procedures / terminology and office equipment.
License Registration or Certification Requirements:
Essential Responsibilities
- Assists in the delivery of patient care by performing specific patient care tasks per scope of service and as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Assists with admissions transfers discharges and transport of patients.
- Obtains and records Temperature Pulse Respirations Blood Pressure Oxygen saturation weights and Blood Glucose testing. Reports abnormalities and condition changes to primary nurse promptly.
- Demonstrates competence in advanced skills to include but not limited to: oral suctioning enemas (no Fleets enemas) clean dressings after a RN assessment tube feeding setup external catheter (condom catheter) postmortem care and suction canister setup.
- Communicates effectively and frequently with health care team members to share information and solve problems in a positive and resultoriented manner both verbally and electronically.
- Documents legibly on all hospital forms using standardized abbreviations.
- Gets patient report from the RN and offgoing PCT at the beginning of the shift. Gives endofshift report to the primary nurse and oncoming PCT at the end of the shift.
- Participates in walking rounds with the oncoming and off goingPCT at shift change
- Provides personalized care to patients and families. Identifies and documents special needs on the patient rounding sheet.
- Utilizes available educational materials programs nursing literature and resource personnel for career development and attends mandatory inservices to maintain unit competencies.
- Utilizes material equipment and time in a safe therapeutic and cost effective manner.
- Assists with appropriate tasks in all code situations (i.e. CPR obtaining equipment etc. under the direction of the Code Blue Team.
- Adheres to Organizational infection control practices and policies and to established safety and security policies including using two 2 identifiers whenever taking blood samples or performing any procedure.
- Assists with maintaining the general cleanliness and appearance of areas on the unit including but not limited to:
- Cleans treatment rooms showers commodes and IV poles after use.
- Cleans kitchens (refrigerators ice machines sinks counters) as assigned.
- Cleans counters and empties trash in nursing station as requested.
- Cleans other areas such as storage areas linen rooms staff lounge as requested.
- Cleans restocks and maintains patient care supplies.
- Maintain and Model REACH Values (Respect Excellence Accountability Compassion Honor).
- Demonstrates regular reliable and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as required.
