The Security Police Officer I Lieutenant (SPO I Lt. an armed position provides tactical leadership supervision and evaluation of all assigned Protective Force (PF) personnel and ensures they function effectively when responding to unusual or emergency situations. The Lieutenant ensures assigned bargaining unit personnel comply with their orders are properly equipped and that training exercises are conducted efficiently and safely. Additionally the SPO I Lt. is responsible for evaluating personnel and ensuring post orders are current inspecting security posts reviewing official reports logs conducting surveys of security interests enforcing compliance with orders and contract obligations. The Lieutenant ensures all work is executed in accordance with Integrated Safety Management (ISM) and Integrated Safeguards and Security Management (ISSM) functions and principles.
A rigorous background investigation including criminal history check credit check preemployment drug screening physical and psychological examinations will be conducted. Due to the armed nature of this position applicants with convictions for domestic violence who are the subject of a protective order or have felony convictions will not be considered.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct On Shift Performance Assessment (OSPA) exercises with assigned personnel to ensure individual capabilities to enforce the Protective Force mission. Document results.
Train new personnel in unfamiliar zones the assigned zones responsibilities hazards and security requirements.
Interpret policies and regulations and instruct subordinates. Ensure assigned personnel are up to date on all General Security Orders Post Orders Supplemental Security Orders and procedures affecting daytoday operations and ensure personnel are able to perform the post operations in a safe manner.
Conduct random prohibited article inspections and process confiscated prohibited articles.
Provide assistance for emergency management of security and safety incidents at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
Perform customer relations during the investigation of incidents involving and/or against LANL personnel and with local external agencies as necessary.
Perform the duties of Officer in Tactical Command and OnScene Commander for emergency situations until relieved by the appropriate Incident Commander.
QUALIFICATIONS
Work is performed onsite. Position is not remote.S. Citizenship required.
Associates degree from an accredited college/university or combination of academic training military / law enforcement and other experience.
At least one 1 year of Protective Force (PF) security experience with Department of Energy (DOE) armed security operations or similar military / law enforcement experience.
Ability to successfully complete a DOE Basic Security Police Officer (BSPOT) or Tactical Response Force 1 (TRF100 course and sitespecific training programs.
Must be current in and maintain all required certifications and qualifications for the position.
Currently have or be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) Q level security clearance.
Currently have or be able to obtain and maintain certification in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid unrestricted New Mexico drivers license.
Ability to meet and maintain approved standards as outlined in 10 CFR 1046 and DOE O 473.2A to include random drug and alcohol screens. Initially ability to meet the Advanced Readiness Standards as outlined in 10 CFR 1046 which include: a one mile run in eight 8 minutes thirty 30 seconds or less; and a fortyyard 40 dash in eight 8 seconds or less starting from a prone position
Ability to qualify at and maintain a minimum score of 70 with all siteapproved weapons on the DOE qualification courses as set forth in 10 CFR 1046 and DOE Order 473.2A.
Demonstrated tactical leadership oversight and supervisory skills and knowledge of security practices.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to convey information professionally and tactfully.
Must be available to work extended hours (days nights weekends and holidays).
Must be able to work in remote and austere environments.
Must be able to react provide direction leadership and support under any type of emergency conditions.
Must be able to obtain and maintain Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) pilot certification.
Military security or law enforcement experience is considered a plus.
