POSITION TITLE:Athletic Trainer
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current NATA certification in good standing eligible for state of Arkansas athletic training licensure
- CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in persontoperson and small group situations with customers clients general public and other employees of the organization.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 days per the Districts Work and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education. Benefits according to the Contractual Agreement.
REPORTS TO:Athletic Director
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Administer the training room providing initial treatment subsequent treatment and rehabilitation services for middle and high school student athletes under the general direction of the Athletic Director. Supervise student athletic trainers within the student internship program and consult with coaches parents and physicians as needed. The goal of the position is to have athletes as ready to participate as physically and as safely as possible and to prevent athletic injuries from ever occurring.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Daily develop a plan of action and budget to address needs for the training rooms.
- Daily supervise student athletic trainers and coordinate with coaches.
- Demonstrate an ability to perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries: prevention assessment treatment (including CPR/first aid) and rehabilitation as set forth by the NATA Board of Certification and the Arkansas State Board of Athletic Training.
- Order appropriate supplies/materials for the training room.
- Attend all varsity/junior varsity/freshmen football games and attend other senior high and junior high practices/games as designated by the athletic director.
- Provide written report of student injuries and status of injury to head coach athletic director and parents as appropriate. Maintain appropriate records and keep on file all physical forms.
- Provide treatment and rehabilitation as needed to junior and senior high athletes.
- Attend Arkansas Athletic Trainer Associates meetings and NATA National Meeting. On a yearly basis (or as required) provide CPR/first aid training to all SSSD coaches to include CPR training and heatrelated illnesses.
- Provide and coordinate with parents information regarding insurance claims.
- Determine an athletes physical readiness to participate and communicate this with the coaching staff.
- Have knowledge of normal anatomical structure and function physiological demand and response to exercise normal biomechanical demands of exercise nutritional and hydration demands of the athlete contraindications and side effects of prescription and nonprescription medications absorption dissipation and transmission of energy of varying materials (i.e. protective padding) and legal requirements and rules of the athletic event.
- Have knowledge of Methicillinresistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other transmitted diseases.
- Have knowledge of transmission and proper cleaning of athletic and nonathletic supplies and equipment.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
