Role Purpose
The Environmental Safety Lead will lead the design and management of programs to support MEA countries on efate and ecotoxicological issues. The role will be responsible for delivering training and upscaling authorities under the CropLife umbrella.
The role requires also to manage different external stakeholder and to represent the interest of the company within industry working groups (CropLife Asia). This includes leading working groups within the industry associations such as CropLife Asia Product Safety environmental subgroups.
Furthermore the role would require focusing on FTO issues e.g. bees and/or aquatic risk assessment for rice. This would mean providing support to the countries in discussions around bees and/or aquatic risk assessment. Furthermore the role will provide guidance and support in answering questions from the authorities.
The role will involve working with global product safety within the different working groups to ensure global expertise and knowledge is used effectively but also to ensure a constant knowledge transfer is taking place all the time.
Accountabilities
- To support the region and countries on authorities questions and queries regarding efate and ecotoxicological topics.
- Actively contributes to the design and management of programmes of field studies in collaboration with project leads for existing and new actives
- Interprets the significance and consequences of results by liaising directly with other staff in Product Safety as required as well as other functions such as regulatory affairs and business teams.
- Inputs to the development of technical approaches to define which studies and assessments are required how these are conducted and as necessary coordinates information and responds to comments on studies from regulators as requested by project leads
- Work as part of global project teams for new active ingredient development to facilitate the delivery of data and risk assessments in the AMEA JANZ region.
- To work with the global Product Safety organisation to ensure appropriate involvement of global expertise and technical positions in AMEA JANZ projects.
- To monitor regulatory developments in AMEA JANZ with regard to environmental development & risk assessment
- To engage within industry associations to promote industry approach risk assessment.
- Represent Syngenta in meetings with external regulatory agencies to discuss and successfully advocate our technical positions to address their questions and concerns.
- Deliver high level science inputs to within the Product Safety organization to support the management of technical issues.
Qualifications :
Knowledge experience & capabilities
Critical knowledge
- Technically trained in a scientific discipline through a combination of education and work experience.
- Understanding about EFate and Ecotox studies
- knowledge about acute (and if possible chronic) ecotoxicology
- An understanding of the regulatory requirements for pesticides in AMEA JANZ countries
- Study design supervision and evaluation

Additional Information :
- Travel within the AMEA/JANZ region would be required to supervise ongoing studies and also to engage with authorities via training sessions and project specific discussions
