Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY :The Director for Housing and Residence Life plans organizes directs and oversees the Residence Life operations of oncampus housing; facilitates a positive environment which promotes academic success personal development and civic responsibility; develops a residential student leadership program in coordination with the Director of Student Engagement and develops strong positive community within Residence Life; partners with Athletics TRIO SSS Upward Bound and other programs to provide liveon experiences for their cohorts of students outside of the regular academic year; consults and coordinates with officials from other educational institutions District administration staff and faculty to develop strategy resolve concerns and implement innovative solutions within housing; and consults with students parents and College officials regarding general and specific housing criteria problem resolution and interpretation and explanation of policy. Maximizes occupancy of the facility and seeks innovative approaches to achieve occupancy goals. Additionally the position leads the CARE/Behavior Intervention Team meetings as appropriate collaborates with various departments; serves as a Student Conduct Officer (SCO) conducts hearings and manages the Maxient software as assigned by the Dean of Student Development.


Responsibilities

  • Develops implements and manages an annual operations plan which includes goals for residential student recruitment and retention; oversees the daily operations of coeducational residence halls; conducts and assists with the development of long and shortrange goals; develops and measures objectives activities and performance indicators based on Department goals; provides strategic planning for housing; systemizes administers and evaluates the housing assignment process; and oversees all programming initiatives including recreational events.
  • Trains hires supervises and evaluates assigned employees. This includes indepth and ongoing training of Resident Assistants in collaboration with the other college staff.
  • Serves the College District as a Student Conduct Officer (SCO) ensures due process and conducts hearings/meetings in support of the Dean of Student Development.
  • Serves as the Maxient administrator for student conduct software management; develop processes for the administration collection and dissemination of information gathered through the Maxient software. Serves as one of the level 5 administrators for the college train troubleshoot and manage data analytics
  • Is responsible for the safety and security of all students living on campus including residential grant programs and all external groups requesting to live on campus; serves on the Behavioral Intervention/CARE Team (BIT) and leads those meetings as appropriate assists with the development of training opportunities for that team assists the Dean of Student Development with ensuring appropriate student mental health services are available.
  • As a SCO adjudicates student conduct cases as assigned; provides appropriate sanctions and necessary followups; maintains accurate records and ensures timely completion of tasks assigned to students;works in concert with the Dean of Student Development on updating the residence hall rules and procedures on an annual basis; assists with Student Conduct Appeals processes; and represents the Collegeas appropriate during the student hearings.
  • Serves on an oncall duty rotation while students are living on campus; responds to crises and emergencies on campus; communicates and upholds all College and housing policies and procedures; advises and provides appropriate referrals for students in need of services; supports other agencies (e.g. CAC Police Regional Fire etc. during a crisis; documents incidents; and followsup with students as needed.
  • Serves as a liaison to multiple departments and offices; works closely with Facilities staff; reports maintenance problems to appropriate personnel; followsup to ensure work is completed; tours and inspects facilities on a regular basis to ensure building security safety and cleanliness guidelines are met; recommends modifications in policies and procedures to upgrade safety and security of facilities; and maintains a relationship with the Athletic Department.
  • Reviews and authorizes expenditures needed to keep the residence hall in operating order ensuring that budgetary guidelines are followed; participates in annual budget processes with program directors budget administrators and/or staff to make determination for budget development strategic planning requests and management analysis and accountability reports; and oversees budget process for renovations phased furniture replacement and amenity provisions each year.
  • Evaluates and identifies necessary revisions to procedures or processes to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations local state and federal laws as they apply to student housing (e.g. LandlordTenant Act Fair Housing Act FERPA HEA etc..
  • Participate in committee assignments and in the recruitment and retention of all students.
  • Performs other duties commensurate with functions and level of position or as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelors degree.

EXPERIENCE: Three 3 years related experience in student services and/or campus housing or a similar environment

SPECIAL POSITION CONDITIONS: The chosen candidate is required to reside at CACs Signal Peak Campus.

Background Verification: As a condition of employment all candidates accepting an offer of employment for a fulltime part time temporary student worker or volunteer position will be required to undergo a Background Verification. Employment with Central Arizona College is contingent upon the successful completion of the background verification. The level the background verification for this position is: Standard level.

  • Skill in organizing analyzing and developing solutions to a variety of problem situations as they relate to residence hall students.
  • Skill in applying conflict resolution mediation and conciliation techniques and methodologies to roommate and interpersonal conflicts.
  • Skill in dealing with a variety of highly confidential information records and sensitive situations in an effective manner.
  • Skill in gathering compiling and presenting information in oral and/or written form.
  • Skill in communicating.
  • Skill in interacting with staff community leaders faculty students and the public.
  • Skill in working with a diverse multiethnic multicultural population.
  • Ability to apply a variety of management supervisory and leadership techniques to ensure effective and efficient operations.
  • Ability to analyze situations develop solutions and make independent decisions based on established guidelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with College staff faculty administrators and outside contractors.
