Examines patients with breathingrelated conditions and conducts diagnostic testing. Consults with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient. Performs physiotherapy and other treatments and teaches patients to use medications.
Reports to: Director Respiratory Care & Neurodiagnostic Services
Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors records and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes current research and best practices.
Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.
Educates the patient and family about the patients illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
Monitors receives stocks and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
Disassembles cleans and sterilizes equipment and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
Minimum EducationAssociates or Bachelors degree in Respiratory Therapy Required
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Computer skills required.
Required SkillsCertifications:
BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Required to be current upon hire.
ACLS & PALS certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Required within 12 months of employment if not current upon hire
NRP certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) Required within 12 months of employment if not current upon hire
Required SkillsLicenses: Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Respiratory Care Practitioner with ABG endorsement. Temporary initial licensure letter by the State of Tennessee as a graduate respiratory care practitioner acceptable without ABG endorsement until state licensure is issued.
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum of 6 months Respiratory Care experience preferred
