The Arkansas Archeological Survey (AAS) is a unit of the University of Arkansas System. Our mission is to study and protect archeological sites in Arkansas to preserve and manage information and collections from those sites and to communicate what we learn to the people of Arkansas. Cooperative agreements with seven state university campuses two state parks and the UA Systems Winthrop Rockefeller Institute enable scholars at ten research stations around the state to carry out this mission. Summary of Job Duties:

The Lab Technician performs duties in regards to processing collections which includes but is not limited to: counting weighing labeling and boxing of artifacts. Minimal identification of artifacts as well as cataloging and database entry through a digital application on an iPad is required.
Essential Job Duties:
Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs
Ability to use a tablet for online data entry
Problem solving skills
Counting and weighing artifacts to enter into a database
Bringing older collections up to newest archival standards such as: sorting artifacts into correct categories bagging labeling and boxing artifacts

The Extra Help Assistant is responsible for providing unskilled semiskilled labor or performing basic office tasks in a state agency or institution. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Interest in or knowledge of archeology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • General knowledge/experience in archeology

  • Experience in a lab setting

  • Data entryexperience

Knowledge Skills & Ability (KSAs):

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to take direction and work with others closely


Additional Information:

Graduate students are subjected to background checks.


Salary Information:

$17.20 per hour
