Position Summary
The Departmental Coordinator for the Chemistry Department serves as the primary person responsible for administrative functions in the Department. The coordinator maintains the class schedule in CMS gathers and organizes course syllabi and textbook adoptions processes student adds/drops prepares departmental correspondence and assists faculty and staff with questions and administrative support.
In addition the Departmental coordinator is responsible for tasks for a Departmental cluster that also includes the Departments of Biological Sciences and Geography. Departmental cluster tasks include student assistant instructional student assistant graduate assistant and teaching assistant hiring timekeeping and recordkeeping. The incumbent is responsible for all steps in the process for advertising hiring tracking and managing budgets for student assistant lines.

Department Information
The Department of Chemistry at Sacramento State offers an American Chemical Society approved BS Chemistry degree a BS Biochemistry degree BA degrees with concentrations in biochemistry and forensics and masters degrees in chemistry including a biochemistry concentration. The department is undergoing rapid growth and currently has over 400 majors. Our degree programs include a strong focus on instrumentation and handson experiences. We place a high value on faculty mentored research for undergraduates and graduate students. Our graduates obtain industry and government jobs in chemistry biochemistry and biotechnology; complete MS/PhD programs in all areas of chemistry; complete professional health degrees in medicine pharmacy dentistry and optometry; and teach in high schools/community colleges in the Sacramento region.

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar spelling and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program technical/vocational program or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.
