Introduction/Job Purpose:
The Dams Permitting Engineering Associate Iserves as an entrylevel staff engineer/engineering associate for implementation of the South Carolina Dams and Reservoirs Safety Act Regulations.
Job Duties:
1. Analyze basic permit applications and other engineering submittals with supervisor assistance to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and good engineering practices. Hold meetings and/or conduct correspondence with engineering consultants and dam owners to discuss permitting requirements permit application review comments and design options/alternatives. In executing this function use of one or more of the following systems is expected: Geographic Information Systems software and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software. Developing and maintaining familiarity with engineering manuals standards and recommendations developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers Natural Resources Conservation Service and other federal agencies is a key aspect of this function.
2. Assist with routine and emergency inspections of dams and generate inspection reports and be able to convey findings to dam owners and other relevant parties along with the rationale behind inspection findings recommendations conclusions with close supervisor involvement. Similarly assist with determining appropriate dam hazard potential classifications and be able to convey findings to dam owners and other relevant parties along with the rationale behind classification decision with close supervisor involvement.
3. Maintain availability to internal and external customers to respond to damsrelated questions (i.e. technical regulatory policy etc. to include attending community meetings and provide requested information and project updates in a timely fashion.
4. Carry the Dam Safety Program 24hour/7day emergency phone on assigned rotation and conduct self accordingly during assigned shift.
A bachelors degree in engineering. The education must qualify the applicant to become registered as a Level A Professional Engineer in South Carolina and must meet one of the education requirements outlined on the South Carolina Department of Labor Licensing and Regulations website found at: If the applicant is utilizing the substantially equivalent education pathway the approval letter from LLR must be final at time of application.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
