Job Description

The MiddlesexLondon Health Unit has an exciting opportunity for a temporary fulltime Public Health Inspector to work until April 2026 on the Infectious Disease Control (IDC) team in the Environmental Health Infectious Diseases & Clinical Services (EHIDCS) division at our Citi Plaza location London Ontario.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Associate Manager IDC the successful candidate will:

  • Deliver comprehensive programs in the community including Infectious Disease Control program work which may include but is not limited to case contact and outbreak management for Diseases of Public Health Significance food safety and infection prevention and control inspections institutional infection prevention and control community infection prevention and control investigations.
  • Apply expertise in the areas of prevention enforcement promotion protection education and research.
  • Protect individual and community wellness through the application of a variety of professional and technical skills in health protection health promotion and law enforcement activities.
  • Provide coverage and client service through the participation in office duty work evening and weekend shift coverage and oncall weekends; and
  • Participate in other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A fouryear Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Environmental Health and Certification as a Public Health Inspector by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors CIPHI(C) is required (Public Health Inspector students awaiting certification will be considered).
  • Familiarity with relevant Regulations and Guidelines as well as the Ontario Public Health Standards and Protocols is required.
  • Excellent computer skills in the areas of documentation and MS Office as well as proficiency with public health information systems and reportable disease databases (Hedgehog; inspection databases; case and contact management databases).
  • Demonstrated ability to process and apply significant amounts of information accurately and quickly while working effectively in a dynamic and fastpaced environment as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently efficiently and provide effective service delivery in an environment that requires rapid change.
  • Effective communication interpersonal and interviewing skills including an understanding of cultural sensitivity.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to influence and deescalate complex and/or challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Possession of a valid Class G Ontario Drivers License and use of a vehicle for workrelated purposes OR the ability to arrange for transportation to multiple locations in London and Middlesex County.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • CIC credential is preferred.
  • Previous experience in Infectious Disease Control program work is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in case and contact management work is considered an asset.
  • Skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse population have knowledge of health inequities.
  • Communication proficiency (written and verbal) in French and/or any other language is highly desirable.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $37.84 to $47.27 hourly based on qualifications and experience.
