TITLE: Substitute Teaching Assistant
LOCATION: Urbana School District #116
SUPERVISOR: Director of Human Resources Building Principals and Assistant Principals
JOB SUMMARY: Under general direction of the Director of Human Resources Principals and Assistant Principals the Substitute Teaching Assistant works under the supervision of the Special Education and/or Classroom Teacher in the absence of the regular Teaching Assistant assisting students with academics behaviors and other general supports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The successful Substitute Teaching Assistant:
- Provide assistance to students to help develop their independence.
- Assist in carrying out lessons to students as arranged by the teacher including working with students on an individual or small group basis.
- Make needed adaptations and accommodations for students academic programming in general education classes as developed by the special education or classroom teacher.
- Follow each students individual behavioral plan as well as the classroom behavior management plan as assigned.
- Provide for special needs of individual students including lifting hygiene and restroom assistance if necessary.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining a functional attractive and orderly environment conducive to student learning.
- Assist the teacher in clerical tasks computer work arts and crafts preparation playground supervision housecleaning duties bus loading and unloading.
- Promote and model responsible respectful and safe behaviors.
- Promote and model appropriate social interactions with and between students.
- Maintain the classroom routine when the teacher is not present.
- Record and compile data monitoring academic and behavior programming as assigned.
- Participate in staff/team/collaboration meetings as assigned.
- Perform all other duties and tasks assigned from time to time by the teacher as it relates to individual students or the classroom.
- Monitor student needs and behaviors during lunch going to and from all classes and at all times.
- Report any unusual student behaviors to the teacher or administrator.
- Reports to the school office at least 15 minutes prior to each assignment and signs out upon completion.
- Completes annual trainings as required.
- Maintains professional relationships with students and faculty follows ethics of the teaching profession and promotes the welfare of students at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Must have an Associates Degree 60 hours of college credit or the ability to pass a Basic Skills test to be awarded licensure by the Illinois State Board of Education.
LICENSURE
Valid Illinois Teaching License (Educator License with Stipulations with Paraprofessional Endorsement a Substitute License or a Professional Educator License)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- $105$125 per day.
- Must work a minimum ofthree days per *quarter to maintain active sub status
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
NOTE: This is not a position within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative is a nonexempt position.
