Job Description

The project manager position for the STEM Center is a 12month position contingent upon grant funding that will support existing and ongoing STEM outreach and research projects. One of the current projects is Unboxing CT which will be funded for up to 2 more years through an NSF grant. The goal of this project is to investigate the integration of computational thinking (CT) into elementary school curricula by studying how teachers develop expertise in integrating CT activities that align with interdisciplinary standards and existing curricula. This project addresses the critical need for STEM literacy by investigating effective models of professional development (PD) that improve STEM teaching and learning. The project will utilize a collaborative teacher PD and mentorship structure in which teachers will work closely with peers and project team members to prepare teach and reflect upon lessons through multiyear participation. Other projects and outreach initiatives involve working with PK12 youth and connecting to local schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daytoday operations of STEM Center projects
  • Assist with implementation and data collection alongside teachers in partner schools
  • Help develop activities that will be used in various teacher PDs related to STEM andComputer Science education
  • Codesign integrated lessons with classroom teachers and project team members
  • Ensure accurate data collection organization and storage
  • Help maintain project websites resource lists and survey sites
  • Local travel primarily in the Lowcountry to visit schools

Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are the knowledge skills and/or abilities needed for this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

  • Bachelors degree in education or a STEM discipline
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an academic community and PK12 teachers and students
  • Ability to manage and meet multiple and ongoing deadlines
  • Ability to lift and move objects that weigh more than 25 lbs. (i.e. transporting curriculum materials to schools)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in education or a STEM discipline
  • Teaching experience (at the elementary or middle level preferred)
  • Experience with interdisciplinary curriculum design (i.e. STEAM/PBL)
  • Instructional coaching experience ideally for STEM Integration
  • Experience with educational or scientific research
  • An understanding of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
  • Experience designing and delivering teacher professional development
