Job Description
Department Overview
The Vaccine & Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) invites applications for professorialtrack faculty positions at the Assistant Associate and Full Professor levels. We are interested in candidates who have demonstrated potential for creative collaborative research in infectious disease and immunology using small animal models nonhuman primate models basic or translational human studies with the ultimate goal of developing approaches to enable the prevention and cure of infectious diseases.
Located on the OHSU West Campus adjacent to the Oregon National Primate Research Center the VGTI is a freestanding facility that includes access to biosafety level 3 laboratories and stateoftheart core technologies such as spatial profiling and transcriptomics single cell transcriptomics and flow cytometry.
Current faculty engage in multidisciplinary and collaborative research in the pathobiology and immunology and prevention and cure of 1 HIV/AIDS 2 Herpes family viruses 3 tuberculosis 4 malaria 5 emerging viruses particularly those with pandemic potential and 6 the immunology of aging.
Function/Duties of Position
SCIENTIFIC:
- Involvement in an interdisciplinary research or complimentary program in the field of infectious disease.
- Experience in or demonstrated commitment for building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment in research mentoring teaching and service.
- Potential for establishing a productive collaborative externallyfunded research program.
- Anticipated active participation in mentoring of staff students and postdoc trainees.
- Track record of publications and grant funding commensurate with their experience.
- Plan and execute laboratory experiments
- Collect analyze and interpret data/results
- Communicate findings at group and departmental presentations
- Prepare scientific manuscripts.
- Oversee coordination of laboratory resources and personnel in achieving experimental goals
MANAGEMENT:
- Coordination of laboratory resources and personnel in achieving experimental goals of a multidisciplinary research team.
- Responsibilities include hiring training and direct supervision of junior faculty and staff.
TEACHING:
- Teaching is not required but encouraged for mentoring graduate students residents and postdocs.
- Instructs and advises undergraduates and graduate students.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in microbiology virology or related field.
- An outstanding record of research accomplishments such as chairing committees and/or assuming other duties that require responsible dedicated leadership.
- Scientific recognition evidenced by appointment to editorial boards of outstanding scientific journals NIH Advisory committees scientific committees supporting medical research and invitations to speak at national and international events.
- Must have a solidly supported research program and an outstanding record of publications.
