Job Description

JOB/POSITION TITLE: Manager of Grants and Special Funds

STATUS: Exempt

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Manager of Grants and Special Funds works with the Director of Development to develop and implement a grant strategy targeting foundations grantmakers and other funding sources that align with and support the programs plans and mission of Hawaiian Humane Society.

The Manager of Grants and Special Funds is responsible for research and identification of grant opportunities as well as qualification cultivation solicitation and creative stewardship of a portfolio of existing funding organizations. The Manager of Grants and Special Funds is responsible for stewarding and supporting the Combined Federal Campaign funding and Aloha United Way funding programs as well as additional special funds available to Hawaiian Humane Society.

Reports To: Director of Development

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

  • Researches available and future grant opportunities for Hawaiian Humane Society programs and initiatives.
  • Writes and submits all grant applications and reports with required attachments within specified timeframes.
  • Collaborates with operations veterinary services and finance departments on grant research applications and reporting.
  • Responsible for followup with foundations and grantmakers following receipt of the grant to relay outcomes report on the success of the funded program and fulfill other reporting requirements of the grantmaker.
  • Write effective proposals and stewardship reports reflecting the impact of the grant.
  • Track grant results and create timely reports.
  • Communicate with potential funders and agencies.
  • Responsible for the oversight and management of the Combined Federal Campaign and Aloha United Way funding programs (Special Funds).
  • Provides funding proposals and stewards the relationships for all Special Funds programs in coordination with the Director of Development.
  • Join and attend educational sessions as needed to keep informed on current trends.
  • Other duties as assigned to support department/organizational initiatives.

JOB CONDITIONS:

  • Working Conditions: Indoors in airconditioned office. Occasionally outdoors for special events.
  • Equipment Use: PC proficiency (Microsoft Office GrantHub etc. and standard office equipment use.
  • Hours: Regular 40hour work week Monday to Friday typical schedule with other hours based on funder meetings operational requirements and special event needs.

MENTAL PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must successfully employ integrity ethics and emotional intelligence to the position.
  • Must be able to think strategically compassionately and apply critical thinking skills to complex problems.
  • Must exercise compassion patience professionalism flexibility and tact when dealing with a broad range of foundations donors staff volunteers and the public.
  • Must handle people and animals in a pleasant courteous and professional manner.
  • Must be able to meet with funding agencies both virtually and in person at indoor and outdoor
  • Must be able to travel to different locations across Oahu.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Skills/Knowledge: Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Requires excellent presentation and writing skills. Strong verbal written and interpersonal communication skills with a proven ability to engage motivate and inspire others to action. Must have demonstrated experience writing and receiving grant funding for nonprofit organizations. Strong work ethic. Maintains a high level of organization attention to detail and is selfmotivated. Requires knowledge of fundraising database software and GrantHub and/or similar grant platforms.
  • Education/Training: Bachelors degree in nonprofit management communication business or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years experience in grant writing or fundraising. Experience with Raisers Edge preferred. Experience with government GIAs preferred.
