Job Description

Barnard Academy and Reading Elementary School are seeking a .70 fulltime equivalent (FTE) Guidance Counselor for a shared programs in partnership with families and the community provide high quality opportunities and environments that support each students academic social and emotional wellbeing. We strive to foster learning growth and development in a mutually respectful manner within an inclusive environment.

About the Role


The primary role of theGuidance Counseloris to support students socialemotional learning and incude:

  • Support a culture of explicitly teaching social skills social thinking and use of positive discipline and logical consequences.
  • Collaborate with parents teachers counselors and administrators to review data and assess student needs and develop support plans for students experiencing socialemotional challenges.
  • Serve on PBIS EST 504 and crisis teams.
  • Coach teachers through the planning and implementation of social thinking and collaborative problemsolving approaches with students.
  • Work with students 1:1 or in small groups in deescalation selfregulation collaborative problemsolving and social thinking.
  • Support the implementation of districtwide initiatives relative to students socialemotional wellbeing.
  • Facilitate professional learning experiences for faculty and staff.

What Were Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field (Masters degree preferred).
  • Hold or be eligible to hold a valid Vermont teaching license with appropriate endorsement.
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs including those withsocial cognition behavioral and socialemotional needs.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of evidencebased instructional strategies assessment methods and intervention techniques.
  • Participation in a professional/teachinglearning community group or similar learning community.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students families and colleagues.
  • Commitment to promoting equity diversity and inclusion in education and a passion for supporting the academic and socialemotional growth of all students.
