Job Description

Department Overview

We are the Cardiovascular Intermediate Care (CVIMC) unit for OHSU. Our primary patient populations include postopen heart surgery (CABG heart transplants VAD valve replacement etc. medical cardiology (ACS NSTEMI/STEMI heart failure etc. and pre and postop vascular surgery (PAD/PVD vascular bypass etc.. Our primary teams are Cardiothoracic Surgery Vascular Surgery and Cardiology and we collaborate with PT/OT Dietitians Social Work Case Management Speech Therapists and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to provide exceptional care for our patients.

OHSU cares for acutely ill patients in our Medical Surgical and Cardiovascular Intermediate Care Units. We provide the latest evidencebased treatment and have a reputation for effective teamwork. Acute care nurses understand the importance of their independent scope of practice and engage in dependent scope of practice decision making. Acute care nurses also provide patient and familycentered care for the full spectrum of illnesses.

Required Qualifications

  • 1 year RN experience
  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date
  • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date
    • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Current unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS and ACLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • BLS and ACLS must not expire during orientation
  • Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cardiovascular intermediate or progressive care/stepdown unit
  • Management of ventricular assist devices vascular sheaths inotropes and vasoactive medications
  • Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN)
  • Certified Heart Failure Nurse (CHFN)
  • Certified Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse

Additional Details

Length of Orientation

  • Experienced Nurse with more than 1 year of experience:
    • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Learning Pathway or Orientation experience individualized to the candidate between 212 weeks.
