Hope For Youth is looking to hire a Prevention Coordinator for our OASAS Primary Prevention program in Amityville! Hope For Youth is a nonprofit organization striving to provide positive outcomes for children adolescents and families for over 50 years! Hope for Youths OASAS licensed program is hiring a full time Prevention Coordinator. Hope For Youth is a nonprofit organization specializing in child welfare services. The Prevention program is a grant program through the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. The intent of the program is to provide elementary school age children with the skills needed to refrain from engaging in alcohol and substance use and to raise awareness in the community. Hope For Youth OASAS Primary Prevention Program provides children adults families and community stakeholders with the education support and tools needed to refrain from engaging in substance and alcohol use. The OASAS Primary Prevention Program utilizes evidencebased models and psycho educational presentations to reach community members.
To be a successful Prevention Coordinator you must be ready willing and able to do the following always:
1. Function within the policies and procedures as outlined in the program practice guide and employee manual.
2. Adhere to State regulations and applicable code of conduct.
3. Establish and maintain a relationship with stakeholders such as the school districts and coalitions in the Town of Babylon etc.
4. Provide supervision and guidance for the Prevention Specialist(s) in the program.
5. Implement strategies to raise awareness of alcohol drug and gambling related issues.
6. Developing planning and conducting education programs for elementary students involved in HFY Prevention Programs evidencebased practices
7. Conduct surveys of alcohol and drug related issues to develop new prevention/education programs.
8. Develop plan and coordinate community events on gambling awareness prevention substance awareness and prevention.
9. Attend training and professional development as assigned.
10. Attend meetings as assigned.
11. Maintain all reporting records such as OASAS on the WITNYS reporting system.
12. Perform other resulting and necessary work to meet the needs and requirements of the clients the program Hope For Youth oversight agency and any other regulatory obligations
How you will generally spend your time in this job:
50 Planning coordinating and setting up program such as;
Researching material for presentations and community events
Developing and changing PowerPoint presentations (changing from in classroom to virtual platform)
Communication with local stakeholders school districts collations and prevention community
40 Engaging in prevention activities:
Presenting HFY Preventions evidencebased practices curricula
Presenting prevention presentations to HFY community as well as local stakeholders
10 Staff meetings/supervision/training
To qualify for this job you need to be or have the minimum:
1. Bachelors Degree or CASAC CPP or CPS preferred
2. At least one year of experience working with children and adolescents or community action work.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
4. Ability to practice within the scope of OASAS Prevention regulations.
5. Driving; Driving positions require NYS License in good standing and drivers must be 21 years of age or older.
6. Computer skills are essential.
7. Access to a reliable vehicle that can be used on a regular basis for work.
8. Excellent writing skills/time management.
9. Ability to be flexible with scheduling (work evenings possible weekends if necessary).
10. Responding to all calls/emergencies via agencyprovided mobile phone and/or via internet technologies
11. Physical Requirements: read/write reports and log entries walking/standing for prolonged periods bending/stooping kneeling/squatting climbing stairs reaching overhead repetitive wrist/finger movements ongoing access to reliable vehicle and driving own vehicle for work.
This Opportunity is being offered as Full Time 35 hour work week working 8am4pm some weekends/evenings flexing schedule to attend events.
