What Youll Do:
Reporting to the Group Life and Disability Claims Manager youll be responsible for analyzing investigating and assessing disability claims in accordance with contractual and administrative policies. Disability Analysts must possess indepth knowledge of mental and physical impairment and the resulting functional impacts. Disability Analysts must display empathy professionalism be highly organized work in a team environment and be motivated to maintain outstanding service to clients.
The core parts of your role will be to:
- Responsible for key decisions and the development of specific case management plans on all longterm disability (LTD) and life waiver claims within an assigned caseload. Review and analyzes contractual and medical information on new LTD claims while managing an ongoing block of active complex LTD claims.
- Solid understanding of contract wording ability to analyze contractual medical functional and vocational information.
- Engages in professional interactions with members affiliates boards and other stakeholders on a regular basis regarding decisions rehabilitation opportunities as well as timely and efficient followups to telephone and email communications.
- Ensures information is accurate and meets productivity quality and service goals.
- Provides regular ongoing education to members affiliates boards and other stakeholders regarding LTD benefit processes and contractual requirements.
- When required attends and represents OTIP in examinations of discovery.
- Works in partnership with the Rehabilitation Consultants to support members in their returntowork efforts.
- Works in partnership with Disability Benefits Coordinators to obtain claim information ensure benefit payments are accurate and approvals and terminations are processed in a timely manner.
- Utilizes internal and external resources such as medical consultants lawyers vocational and functional rehabilitation specialists WSIB assessors and technical experts as necessary to progress files forward to resolution.
- Assists teammates and provides backup coverage as required.
- Keeps claims information confidential to protect operations.
- Performs other duties within competence as assigned.
Qualifications :

This is the unique blend of skills and experience we would love to see in an ideal candidate:
- Three to five years experience in insurance or longterm disability claim adjudication.
- PostSecondary Education (diploma degree or certificate) is required in health sciences or related field such as nursing physical therapy occupational therapy and exercise physiology or kinesiology.
- CDMP (Certified Disability Management Professional) will be considered an asset.
- A strong understanding of insurance principles and practices industry standards legal and contractual obligations and claims investigation and assessment procedures.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Ability to deal effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to multitask and work in a dynamic and fast paced environment demonstrating superior oral and written communication skills in addition to solid organizational skills.
- The ability to communicate in French will be considered an asset.
