Job Description
Wilkes University invites applicants for an open Music Theory high school enrichment teaching position in the Upward Bound Program for the summer session. Upward Bound is a federally funded Trio Program which provides support to participants in their preparation for college and ultimately in their higher education pursuits.
The successful candidate is responsible for implementing the enrichment component of the Program by introducing students to the fundamentals of music theory including but not limited to notation rhythm scales key signatures intervals and basic harmony. Students will also learn to analyze simple musical compositions and explore the relationships between melody harmony and rhythm. Emphasis will be placed on developing ear training skills sightreading and the ability to understand and apply theoretical concepts in practice. A Bachelors degree in Music Music Education and/or a related field is required. Experience working with high school students or in a collegepreparatory program is preferred.
Please note that this is a parttime/temporary position with a competitive hourly wage. Dates run from June 23rd through July 31st and classes are held throughout the week Mondays and Wednesdays 1:15P.M. 2:30P.M..
