Brief Description of Duties

The University of the District of Columbia College of Arts and Sciences Division of Education Health and Social Work invites applications for a fulltime clinical faculty appointment in Counseling. This is a ninemonth position with a required additional two months of summer work. This position has a target start date of January 6 2025.

The University of the District of Columbia is a public comprehensive university with an urban landgrant distinction. It is the District of Columbias only public institution of higher education. It has historically been a minority serving institution. The University services approximately 5000 students across its twoyear baccalaureate masters and professional programs. The Washington metropolitan community provides an exceptional learning laboratory for faculty staff and students.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The clinical instructor serves as the liaison between the Counseling program and clinical sites:

  • Reporting to the Director of the Counseling Program the clinical instructor is responsible for the administration and coordination of practicum and internship experiences of Counseling candidates.
  • The responsibilities of the position include identifying recruiting and working with multiple sites to coordinate graduate student counseling placements establishing mutually beneficial partnerships with rehabilitation mental health counseling agencies and schools/educational facilities in the surrounding area and teaching graduate courses face to face (with opportunities for hybrid or online instruction).
  • Other duties include serving on division program college and/or university committees working collaboratively with program faculty and area partners performing service administrative and CACREP accreditationrelated tasks as necessary to enhance the quality of the program and performing tasks related to the development of excellence in counselor preparation at UDC.
The successful candidate will be able to foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration and work toward continuous improvement as part of a team.

The ideal candidate will be willing to travel to area rehabilitation and mental health sites and schools/educational facilities to establish and maintain active partnerships. In addition the candidate must be willing to participate in recruitment activities. Experience with CACREP is strongly preferred.


Other Duties

  • Facilitation of licensure and school counselor candidate clinical hours needed for future reporting purposes to CACREP/OSSE/Counseling Licensure Boards
  • Collaborate with the Program Director/Counseling Faculty regularly for planning/coordination/problemsolving of student disposition and other issues
  • Assist with ongoing clinical training of Clinical Instructors
  • Facilitate Professional Disposition Review Meetings
  • Attendance at New Student Masters Orientations and Other Programs to Support Counseling Program
  • Maintain all files related to clinical assignments and student clearance records.
  • Conduct regular site visits to Rehabilitation Mental Health agencies and Schools/educational facilities (minimum twice a month).
  • Collaborate with faculty and community stakeholders for program improvement.
  • Work closely with other University College and Department faculty and professionals.
  • Provide aid in writing and submitting documents and reports associated with accreditation.


Minimum Job Requirements

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in the field of Counselor Education (Masters level with extensive clinical experience will be acceptable.
  • Licensed or Licensed eligible in the VA/MD/DC metropolitan area
  • A minimum of five successful years of experience in counseling (Rehabilitation Mental Health or School).
  • A minimum of one year of teaching in an institution of higher learning.
  • Knowledge of best practices and skills associated with teaching and counselor preparation.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Ability to engage with diverse groups and show sensitivity to variations across age gender socioeconomic status ethnicity language cultural national origin and prior training and educational experience.

Residency Preference:

If selected the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
