Job Description

JOB TITLE: CUSTODIAN

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion ofassigned tasks.
  2. Ability to safely lift and carry 55 lbs.
  3. Must pass physical and drug screening.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:Principal Assistant Principal and/or MaintenanceDirector

JOB GOAL:To provide students with a safe attractive comfortable cleanand efficient place in which to learn play and develop.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Keeps assigned areas of building and premises including sidewalks driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times.
  2. Cleans classroom furniture and chalkboards as needed.
  3. Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it.
  4. Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  5. Sweeps all floors daily and wet mops once a week or more often if needed; if not on contract floor cleaning.
  6. Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance upkeep and repair.
  7. Reports to the principal any damage to school property or major repairs needed.
  8. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
  9. Cleans and removes all debris from accidents occurring within the building.
  10. Regulates heating and airconditioning equipment and provides for their maintenance.
  11. Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and as requested for other school activities.
  12. Reports improper student behavior to the proper authority.
  13. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the principal.
  14. Custodians are not to enter classrooms to do the cleaning chores or collect waste paper until the classroom is empty.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • 220 day contract
  • 8 hours per day

EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of nonprofessional personnel.
