Job Description

Purpose/Description

Administrative Specialist 2 performs highly difficult complex and responsible office work including handling monetary transactions in various departments. In the County Clerks Office typical duties and responsibilities may include: accepting receipts fees and payments from customers; issuing receipts and entering transactions and supporting data into the cash register; distributing and reviewing assignments of subordinates; maintaining statistics relative to work received and completed; entering court orders judgments and proceedings into the Court Case Management System and other duties as assigned. In the Office of the Sheriff the Administrative Specialist 2 performs cashier duties such as handling money assisting customers reconciling registers and preparing deposits; reviewing documents from customers for accuracy and completeness; notarizing Sheriffs Deeds and proofs of service; assisting with preparing the auction as well as other general clerical duties as assigned. In the Parks Division of the Department of Public Services duties include filing typing and recording information answering telephone inventory cashiering and other assignments.

    • File stamping documents true copying documents and preparing them for certification.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educational/ Experience Requirements
    • A high school diploma or its equivalent; AND
    • At least two years of higher level clerical or other office administrative experience which must include handling monetary transactions.

TYPE OF ASSESSMENTS

A Written Assessment 100 will be administered covering knowledge of basic math skills general office practices general clerical practices and procedures and related knowledge. Experience and Training will be worth 5.

Candidates must pass all tests in order to be placed on the eligibility list.

In the event that the number of eligible applicants is equal to or less than the number required for certification the Department of Personnel/Human Resources may substitute for the above tests an evaluation of experience and training or other such tests as the Department may deem desirable to determine the competence of the applicants for appointment.

PURPOSE

To establish a Departmental and Countywide promotional eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies. Certifications made for the purpose of filling positions which at the time of cThe purpose of this examination is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies. The eligible list will remain in effect for six 6 months but may be extended.

The eligible list resulting from this examination will be used only when there are no persons available on the current established Administrative Specialist 2. This is a continuous examination and ranking on the eligible list will be subject to change as names are added to and removed from the list certification are filled by persons having provisional promotions will be governed by the provisions of Section 6 (e) of Rule 8 of the Rules of the Department of Personnel/Human Resources. The purpose of this examination is to establish an eligibility list from which to fill present and future vacancies. The eligibility list will remain in effect for one 1 year.

GENERAL INFORMATION

How to Apply: The application may be used both for determining admission to the examination and for rating experience and training. Section 5 (b) of Rule 6 of the Rules of the Department of Personnel/Human Resources provides that persons denied permission to compete in an examination may make a written appeal to the Wayne County Civil Service Commission for a final decision within twenty 20 days following the mailing of such notification stating the basis on which it is felt that their application should be accepted.
