This position will support small group intervention individual student checkins recess/lunch coverage before/after school supervision and student behaviors.

JOB SUMMARY

The job of Paraprofessional I is to assist assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of students and performing classroom clerical tasks in support of the instructional process.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Per Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) interested applicants must be Highly Qualified to be considered for the position and have completed one of the following:
    • completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours) or
    • obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution or
    • satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher

The higher education institutionofficial transcripts or college diploma or a copy of the Paraprofessional Assessmentmust be provided with your application or upon a contingent offer of employment.

  1. Effective communication skills with both children and adults including speaking reading writing and understanding English; proficiency in grammar and punctuation
  2. Ability to perform basic math including calculations using fractions percentages and ratios
  3. Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g. phone copier scanner fax machines etc. and Microsoft Office

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are examples of skills and experience that the best qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.

  1. Experience in a K12 education or public employment environment
  2. Knowledgeable of ageappropriate activities; stages of child development; classroom management techniques; and development of effective lesson plans; lead small groups and learn through play
  3. Spanish or other language proficiency including ability to read write speak and understand

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher and provide a method to support and reinforce lesson plans while adhering to safety practices
  2. Administer tests and evaluations proctor tests under supervision of teacher (e.g. DRA DIBELS observational data for IEP goals etc. to monitor student progress
  3. Confers with teacher assisting in evaluating student progress and implementing student objectives
  4. Implement students learning and behavior plans to meet students social and behavioral interventions health care plans and ensure compliance with IEPs
  5. Monitor individual students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom library playground activities field trip bus boarding and exiting etc. providing a safe and positive learning environment
  6. Provide appropriate classroom intervention with students under the Teachers direction (e.g. booster groups individual instruction small group instruction etc. improving student learning and academic success
  7. Prepare teaching materials perform recordkeeping and clerical functions and organize related reports (e.g. worksheets scheduling copying data recording grades attendance anecdotal records etc. to implement lesson plans and document student progress to support teacher and administrator
  8. Report incidents (e.g. fights suspected child abuse suspected substance abuse etc. to maintain the personal safety of students providing a positive learning environment adhering to Education Code and administrative and school policies
  9. Administer first aid/CPR to students when necessary
  10. Assists other school personnel as required and needed (e.g. instructors site administration other paraprofessionals etc. ensuring an efficient and effective work environment
  11. Independently interpret guidelines maintain confidentiality be attentive to detail and adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions as required
  12. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform duties
  13. Participate in various meetings and workshops to receive and convey information. Read a variety of manuals present information to others follow written and verbal communication
  14. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
  15. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling some climbing and balancing some stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40 sitting 30 walking and 30 standing. This job is performed in a generallyhazard free environment.
