ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. WFP is the worlds largest humanitarian organization saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict disasters and the impact of climate change. Around 20000 people work for the organization most of them in remote areas directly serving the hungry poor.
To reach a world with zero hunger WFP is investing in and growing private sector fundraising and partnerships.
ShareTheMeal is WFPs fundraising and awarenessraising app. Free to download the awardwinning app is a pioneering way for people to join our efforts in creating a world with zero hunger.
ShareTheMeal currently has more than 1.3 million supporters worldwide who have shared more than 185 million meals (US$ 100 million). WFP is pursuing an ambitious growth strategy for individual giving and ShareTheMeal is a key driver for this strategy going forward. The team located in Berlin and also remotely is focused on increasing the funds raised to help get to zero hunger by further developing the app to include new and innovative features increasing the engagement of existing users and growing the user base through marketing and communication initiatives. As the user base has grown there is a significant opportunity to increase funds raised from existing users and deliver an exceptional experience to build a longterm relationship with each supporter.
ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
The Consultant reporting to the Lead UX/UI Designer of the ShareTheMeal initiative is expected to:
Support the designing of appealing user interface and work improvements in user experience of
ShareTheMeal working closely with the Lead UX/UI Designer
o Work with requirements
o Collect references to the best practices implement required UX and UI changes by creating
process flows wireframes and prototypes
o Create developmentready mockups including edge cases and empty states
o Participate in user research working closely with other team members in the product content and
marketing teams
o Gather and validate business and enduser requirements
o Design user journeys based on the needs and the limitations of the users and of the context of use
o Participate in work stream discussions/meetings as required
o Support and contribute to the design system
o Develop wireframes designs prototypes storyboards user flows animations and mockups of
new/optimized features
o Prepare and iterate visual assets and pixelperfect layout specifications for the native mobile apps and web
working hand in hand with our developers and QA
o Provide Quality Assurance on the correct implementation of interface designs and behaviours
o Support and contribute to the design system
Support other activities within the ShareTheMeal initiative as required
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT
Improvements to UI and UX of the ShareTheMeal mobile apps and website handover of the
documentation and assets
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education University degree in Marketing Advertisement Media Communications Science or other
relevant field
Work history 5 year progressive experience working in Design
Technical expertise Visual awareness and knowledge of latest tendencies in modern design
Soft skills
Technical awareness
Experience and extensive knowledge of prototyping tools such as Figma (or
Sketch AdobeXD)
Basic knowledge of typography and basics of composition
Meticulous attention to detail ability to create pixelperfect designs
Basic knowledge of motion design and experience with responsive design is a plus
Ability to interact with managers with maturity and tact
Mature judgment with strong interpersonal skills
Collaborative spirit able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and
across different cultures and to act with credibility and diplomacy
Strong time management skills with an ability to plan ahead anticipate
requirements problems and obstacles and an ability to juggle competing
priorities successfully and to work to tight deadlines
Selfmotivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy
Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the World Food Programme
Language(s) Excellent command of spoken and written English
Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language would be a plus (Arabic
Chinese French Russian Spanish).
