CLASSIFICATION: HEALTH PROFESSIONAL
TITLE: DISTRICT SOCIAL WORKER
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF COUNSELING AND SOCIAL SERVICES
SALARY: HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES
JOB GOAL
The District Social Worker will provide services to students and families which strengthen home/school/community relationships and alleviate barriers to learning district wide.
Desired Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) or equivalent professional social work degree from an accredited school
- Arizona State Social Worker License
- Arizona School Social Worker Certification desired
- One year of successful social work experience or one year of field instruction in a school system or six semester hours of acceptable coursework preferrred
- Knowledge of school district and community resources available for students and families
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Social Work Code of Ethics and sensitivity to diverse cultures
Core Job Functions:
- Serves as a districtwide liaison between schools families and community agencies
- Advocate for the district to receive adequate support from social and mental health agencies
- Assist in developing and implementing educational programs including Social Emotional Learning and professional development
- Identify cultural ethnic financial physical and emotional challenges which might be negatively impacting students success and provide support to mitigate barriers district wide
- Serve as active member of district level subcommittees and crisis team
- Participate in community councils and task forces
- Collaborate with surrounding school districts
- Participate in department planning and trainings regarding school related issues
- Implement evidence informed district wide prevention programs and practices that teach positive behaviors promote social emotional development and ensure school climates conducive to learning.
- Collect review and analyze data and needs assessment results for use in district wide planning and programming
- Work with the Director of Counseling and Social Services to build and implement district wide policies procedures and best practices
- Plan and conduct staff and community activities related to mental health topics such as suicide prevention selfharm and mental illness substance abuse and other timely topics
- Consult with school personnel regarding problems affecting students academic progress behavior and personal wellbeing
- Alleviate family stress to enable the students to function more effectively in school and community
- Provide interventions to students and their families during crisis
- Provide direct intervention such as individual and group counseling to address the needs of students and families
- Assist families in accessing and utilizing school and community resources
- Continue professional growth to maintain knowledge of skills related to job functions and timely topics
- Attend and participate in meetings which may occur beyond the staffs normally scheduled work day
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Positions in this classification typically require: stooping kneeling crouching standing walking sitting finger or manual dexterity repetitive finger motion speaking hearing seeing (with correction) focusing ability or other factors applicable for the job. Employees may be subject to travel odors dusts poor ventilation workspace restrictions and loud noises. Employees may be required to lift or exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force to move objects frequently.
