About the Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis

There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners along with an elected county judge serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court the administrative head of the countys government. Commissioner Rodney Ellis represents the constituents of Precinct One.

With approximately 1.17 million residents Harris County Precinct One is a diverse urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct Ones multiracial multiethnic population is roughly 33 percent African American 38 percent Latino 21 percent Anglo 6 percent Asian and 2 percent other or multiple races. Precinct One stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precincts territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex Toyota Center Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College Rice University Texas Southern University the University of Houston and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One manages more than 21 parks 10 community centers numerous hikeandbike trails three maintenance service centers and several area offices all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.

What you will do at Precinct One:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dependable Camp Program Assistant to support our youth summer program by leading nature and environmental education activities for children ages 5 to 13. This role involves facilitating handson learning experiences that encourage curiosity environmental awareness and outdoor exploration. Training will be provided for all curriculum content and staff will receive certification in First Aid and CPR. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children is a strong communicator and is passionate about nature and education.

**This is a temporary position starting June 2 2025 and ending August 8 2025**


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Guide and supervise groups of children during daily camp activities ensuring safety engagement and appropriate behavior
  • Lead naturebased lessons arts and crafts and handson activities both indoors and outdoors
  • Assist with the care handling and cleaning of program animals as part of educational programming
  • Prepare serve and distribute snacks lunch and water to campers
  • Support the setup and creation of crafts and materials for the camps final event booth
  • Perform light janitorial duties to help maintain a clean safe and organized environment
  • Collaborate with fellow staff and respond flexibly to additional duties as assigned to support overall camp operations

Psycial Demands and Work Environment:
  • Activities are a mix of indoor and outdoor environments with three outdoor activities and two indoor activities each day
  • Camp hosts between 10 to 45 children daily along with their chaperones creating a dynamic and lively atmosphere
  • The role requires both indoor and outdoor work ensuring a variety of tasks and environments throughout the day
  • Physical endurance to work outdoors for extended periods with shade provided by trees for comfort
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds to transport supplies and materials for camp activities
  • Ability to gather move and set up supplies for various camp activities throughout the day
  • Physical stamina to walk outdoors for up to 30 minutes during hikes and rotate between different activity stations
  • Ability to engage in active handson tasks in both indoor and outdoor settings requiring flexibility and mobility
