North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science technology and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customers mission. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen at least 18 years of age and able to meet preemployment requirements including any required physicals drug screen and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
Successful candidates will be employees of NWS a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and wellqualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore CA. Though employed by NWS the employee will take daytoday direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay benefits Human Resource and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.
The Operations and Business Directorate has an opening within the Environment Health and Safety Directorate for a Health Physicist to provide advanced health physics (HP) support to ensure radiation safety programs at LLNL are effective and compliant. This position will also provide solutions to complex HP issues/problems and provide support and guidance to ES&H Team radiological control personnel (e.g. health physicists technicians) in the area of field operations. This position reports to the LLNL Radiological Control Manager.
Essential Duties
Evaluate and provide HP input on radiation safety policies and procedures. Help draft review and maintain related institutional documents and other contents.
Conduct assessments and audits necessary to comply with applicable regulatory requirements. Support audits inspections and site verifications by internal and external entities.
Assist in the development and maintenance of associated program documents and processes.
Provide guidance and clarification on a diverse range of moderate to complex issues and answer radiation safety program implementation questions from field radiological control personnel on matters related to HP field operations.
Provide periodic support to Programmatic field operations.
Contribute to the development and presentation of selected training courses in radiation safety (or related topics).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills Knowledge and Abilities
Bachelors degree in Health Physics Nuclear Engineering Radiation Physics or Radiation Protection or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Experience in operational health physics engaged in the monitoring of work environments or a related field with knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and other consensus standards.
Experience with preparing technical reports or participating in and/or conducting radiation safety audits and inspections.
Effective organizational skills with attention to detail necessary to handle multiple tasks in a demanding environment with conflicting priorities tight and changing deadlines and frequent interruptions while providing highlevel customer service and good follow through.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment with a broad crosssection of people and organizations managing projects and meeting schedules.
Analytical decisionmaking and problemsolving skills to effectively solve moderate to complex problems.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and to present and explain technical or operational information.
Desired Skills Knowledge and Abilities
Masters or higher degree in Health Physics or another closely related technical area.
Certification by the American Board of Health Physics.

PrePlacement Medical Exam: A jobrelated preplacement medical examination may be required.
Preemployment drug test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a postoffer preemployment drug test. This includes testing for use of as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Subcontractor.
Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Qlevel clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country) you may be required to renounce your nonU.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
