Job Description

Job Summary
The faculty member will teach courses in the Mental Health Technician Certificate program and will oversee and be responsible for all of the clinical activities associated with the program.

Essential Functions
Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in the Midland College Faculty Handbook Responsible for organization administration continuous review planning development and general effectiveness of clinical experiences for students enrolled in the Behavioral Health programs Ensure clinical affiliation agreements are current and serve as an effective liaison between the college program and clinical agencies Provide direct clinical instruction Assist with coordination monitoring of student progress and/or direct supervision of students in community practicum placements Plan and organize clinical instruction in ways that maximize student learning; Employs appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students; modifies where appropriate instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs Obtain feedback on the performance of students from clinical preceptors Teach classes and labs with a lecture equivalent hour LEH requirement commensurate with the program curriculum Organize and conduct site/agencyspecific practicum orientations Participate in curriculum development implementation and evaluation Participate in the preparation of reports for state agencies and accrediting bodies as needed Assist with program advising of students and the admission process for the program Stay current with trends and innovations in the field Maintain a wellmanaged learning environment regardless of instructional location or modality Communicate clearly concisely and in a caring manner with students Identify students who are at risk for course failure and employ early interventions to promote student success Communicate learning objectives to students and develop appropriate highquality assessments to measure the attainment of objectives Participate in the program advisory committee Continually improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing methodologies techniques and delivery techniques Provide access to students through adherence to posted office hours and effective use of Canvas and electronic communication Serve on departmental division and collegewide committees as requested Participate in graduation and other required official college functions Demonstrate responsibility to the teaching discipline and to the profession by participating in professional development activities Maintain a thorough working knowledge of and adhere to policies procedures and regulations; keep the Program Chair/Director wellinformed of activities results of efforts problems identified/potential problems Participate in recruiting students and/or promoting college programs as appropriate for the teaching area Contribute to the College and the community through selfselected service activities Must respect confidentiality in discussing student and client/patientrelated matters Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50 of the time Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time The person in this position needs to move from office to classroom occasionally Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 30 pounds The person in this position needs to occasionally travel to practicum training sites

Required Qualifications
Associate degree in Psychology Social Work or Mental Health field At least one year experience as a practicing Mental Health Technician The equivalent of three years of fulltime professional experience in a related field Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to lead supervise and evaluate students Ability to work independently collaboratively and within a team environment Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with staff at clinical sites Excellent problemsolving skills and solutionfocused thinking skills Must possess a valid Texas Drivers license good driving record and be insurable on Midland Colleges insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors level degree or higher in Psychology Social Work or Mental Health field Experience in curriculum development instruction evaluation and supervision Familiar with student and academic support services
