Job Description

JOB GOAL:

To assure that all students with unique educational challenges will attain academic social and emotional growth through a stimulating challenging and diverse curriculum in partnership with family school and community. To coordinate the special programming for students at Dr. Marian G. Lacey K8 Academy to ensure that all students with disabilities enjoyfull educational opportunity and growth in compliance with federal and state legislation. To facilitate the meaningful inclusion of students with special needs in the regular school program as much as it is profitable for them and that professional support and resources will be available to help these students and the schools staff.

SUMMARY:

The vision of the Dr. Marian G. Lacey K8 Academy is to leverage support from families and community stakeholders to provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences to grow and equip leaders who will shape and impact the world in positive ways within and beyond the walls of our school. Lacey Academy seeks to provide a rigorous structured academic setting where leaders learn and learners lead. Students at Lacey will benefit from a rich collection of opportunities designed to equip learners with the necessary tools to lead within and beyond the walls of the school so that they are able to positively impact their communities and society.

We believe that all students can learn and that they deserve a quality educational experience in a safe environment. We affirm that learning is required and success is our standard. Using quality grade level instruction coupled with engaging meaningful and affirmative educational experiences we will cultivate and nurture an environment that celebrates the diverse strengths of our learners to build and grow prepared and healthy people so they can achieve success at high levels both at school and in the community.

With the School Wellness Wheel framework as our foundation the Dr. Marian G. Lacey K8 Academy will serve as a beacon to stakeholders and an avenue to addressing trauma promoting wellbeing and elevating learning for all. This will be done through giving deliberate intention to implementing schoolwide systems that embody masterybased learning opportunities a growthbased educational approach and strengthbased instruction in every will engage in high levels of handson experiences real world investigations and applied literacy and mathematics Lacey will have opportunities to engage in structured science technology reading/writing engineering arts and mathematics (STREAM) experiences from kindergarten through eighth grade building a strong cohort of leaderswho possess 21st Century skills for collaborative problemsolving technological literacy and careerreadiness.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Ten 10 month contract 200 days) plus benefit : Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon education and experience.FLSA: EXEMPT.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of a Bachelors degree.
  2. Current Arkansas certification in Special Education to serve grades K8.
  3. Evidence of successful experience in working with students at risk.
  4. Evidence of ability to work well with others.
  5. Experience in implementing nonaversive behavioral programs and social skills training.
  6. Evidence of strong writing and organizational skills.
  7. Evidence of ability to implement Individual Education Plans.
  8. Evidence of a strong commitment to qualityinclusive education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.   1. Coordinates the educational management team.
  2. Implements individual educational goals and objectives.
  3. Collects data on students progress.
  4. Meets with classes as assigned.
  5. Plans a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students in aninclusive model.
  6. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  7. Employs a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  8. Assesses the accomplishments and progress of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  9. Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administration regulation.
  10. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in a fair and just manner.
  11. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  12. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  13. Performs other duties as the principal/supervisor may from time to time assign.

Mental Functions Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk go up and down stairs operate foot and hand controls use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty 20 or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound near and far vision depth perception handling and working with educational materials and/or objects and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period and to be physically present and at assigned work with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year. Additional technical skills knowledge and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
