Job Description

The Accessibility Services Coordinator is dedicated to serving the needs of students with documented disabilities. The Coordinator will oversee University compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 including coordination of accommodations for individuals with disabilities. The Coordinator provides students faculty and staff with support in identifying and implementing reasonable academic and other accommodations as appropriate in compliance with federal and state guidelines. In addition the Coordinator will manage the Testing Center including scheduling exams collecting and dispersing completed exams and providing required resources to students. Reports to Executive Director of Instructional Resources.


Essential Duties:

  • Ensures compliance with the ADA Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities.
  • Stays abreast of other institution practices current trends in higher ed and pursues professional development opportunities to ensure quality service and compliance provisions.
  • Leads programming efforts on campus to increase awareness of disabilities among students and staff to cultivate a campus climate of inclusion.
  • Keeps current information regarding policies and procedures for the Accessibility Services Office including websites printed material student handbooks faculty handbooks etc.
  • Advises students parents faculty and staff on disabilityrelated accommodations recommendations policies and procedures.
  • As needed meets with prospective students and their guests during admission recruitment events. Participates in new student orientation activities through registration events presentations and general tasks as assigned.
  • Reviews and evaluates medical psychological neuropsychological and other related documentation of disability and determines reasonable and appropriate accommodations for all students with disabilities.
  • Provides direct service to selfidentified students based on disability including counseling problem solving advocacy and mediation.
  • Maintains detailed and confidential files on persons with selfidentified disabilities; documents ongoing activities and updates records as situations change.
  • Collaborates with various offices including Residence Life Tutoring Services Public Safety Academic Advising Title IX Facilities Wellness Center and Admissions to evaluate determine and communicate appropriate modifications/accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Assists faculty with implementation of and understanding of accommodations for each student and each course in compliance with individual plans and ADA regulations.
  • Initiates communication with faculty to discuss questions or concerns regarding the implementation of accommodations and provides guidance and support in meeting reasonable accommodations.
  • Coordinates faculty and staff training on matters of accessible document creation assignment expectations classroom management etc. for meeting the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Maintains responsibility for securing assistive devices aids equipment notetakers and outside contractors for services that are unavailable on campus such as interpreting.
  • Manages the Testing Center including scheduling student exams ensuring appropriate exam proctoring collecting blank exams from faculty returning completed exams to faculty and providing appropriate technology and space to meet student accommodations.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required with a Masters degree preferred in Higher Education counseling vocational rehabilitation counseling psychology or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience particularly in disability services or academic advising or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and/or willing to become an expert on students with disabilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 products and assistive technology currently available.
  • Excellent interpersonal organizational writing and presentation skills.
  • Committed to helping students achieve success with a high level of professionalism and integrity.

Physical Demands:

  • Routine physical demands for an office environment.
  • Frequent standing or walking.
  • Sitting at a desk or in meetings for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 25lbs.
  • Operate all computer equipment copier printer telephone calculator and facsimile machine.

Additional Information:

Generally responsible for the safety of own work area the area currently working in and attention to safety displayed by direct reports.
