Job Description

The Grant County School District is seeking qualified applicants for the following position

for theSchool Year:

Special Education Teacher

Qualifications:

  • shall hold a bachelors degree or higher and the required Kentucky certificate for the assigned position.
  • shall demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students peers and adults.
  • shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students parents and faculty.

Terms of Employment:

Days of Employment 185 days

SALARY:

Commensurate with the school districts Certified Salary Schedule

Physical Qualifications:

  • Work is performed while standing sitting and/or walking
  • Requires bending squatting crawling climbing reaching sit possibly lift 50 pounds or more
  • Requires the ability to be fully trained in Restraint & Seclusion

Job Goal:

To lead students toward fulfillment of their potential for intellectual emotional and psychological growth and maturation while implementing all goals and objectives of students Individual Education Plans.

  • General Job Responsibilities
  • Instructional and Classroom Management:
  • The teacher uses effective instructional/assessment techniques
  • Plans a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students
  • Establishes academic focus through a review of the previous lesson and/or provides procedures and/or overview of the lesson/activity outcomes.
  • Uses a variety of criteria to effectively assess student achievement (i.e. portfolio rubric performance events anecdotal records checklists).
  • Implements and monitors the Individual Education Plan or other learning plan approved for individual students.
  • Demonstrates innovation in the classroom.

  • Instructional and Classroom Management (cont.:
  • Effectively plans and prepares for instruction that is designed to meet the needs of individual students.

      • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and cooperatively with department heads evaluates their job performance

  • Uses multisensory activities.
  • Effectively uses whole language instruction.
  • Effectively uses manipulatives.
  • Effectively integrates curriculum.

        • Effectively implements cooperative learning.
        • Collaborates with others for instruction.
        • Ensures lesson components and/or activity are effectively stated defined and demonstrated.
        • Provides guided and independent practice.
        • Uses appropriate grammar and vocabulary.
        • Provides clear directions.
        • Provides a review of culminating activity for the lesson or lesson components.
        • Demonstrates enthusiasm and positive attitude through effective interaction with students in the instruction process.
        • Uses effective communication skills during instruction and/or activity.

  • Uses effective questioning and responding techniques during instruction and/or activity.
  • Asks critical thinking and thought provoking questions to a variety of students.
  • Provides wait time and guides the reciter.

        • Asks a minimum of multiple procedural and/or unrelated questions.
        • Permits a minimum of callouts.
        • Adequately acknowledges student responses.
        • Rephrases or amplifies student responses.

  • Effectively uses specific general and group academic praise during instruction and/or activity.

      • Collaborates frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational social and personal problems of such students
      • Works cooperatively with classroom teachers who have disabled students in regular classes interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students to the entire staff and assisting the student with regular class assignments

  • Uses effective classroom management techniques.

      • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities

  • Professional Responsibilities:
  • The teacher follows school district state and federal guidelines and policies.

    • Keeps attendance records and all other records pertinent to the special education programs required by state and local regulations and policies and procedures

  • Professional Responsibilities (continued):
  • The teacher attends staff meetings.
  • The teacher reports to work regularly and on time.
  • The teacher keeps up to date on current educational trends

      • The teacher serves on district school department and/or team committees in a positive productive manner.
      • The teacher selects appropriate channels for resolving concerns/problems.
      • The teacher cooperates with resource personnel other staff members and parents.
      • The teacher attends to assigned duties and responsibilities in a prompt manner.
      • The teacher promotes a proper and attractive physical environment for the classroom.
      • The teacher promotes a professional image through proper personal appearance.
      • The teacher initiates parent/teacher conferences meetings and written communications.
      • The teacher attends and promotes school related activities as required. (includes staff development activities).

  • Interpersonal Relationships:
  • The teacher is cooperative.
  • The teacher demonstrates selfcontrol.

    • The teacher gives and receives constructive criticism.
    • The teacher deals only with those involved in issues of controversy and disagreement
    • The teacher is flexible and reasonable.
    • The teacher displays a sense of humor at the appropriate time and place.
    • The teacher keeps information confidential about students and peers.
    • The teacher positively interprets school and district policies programs and activities to parents peers patrons and community members.
