KEY RESPONSIBILITIES::
Conducts field surveys observes and interprets hydrologic and geologic conditions;
Assists in analyzing and investigating the relationship between groundwater and surface water;
Studies and evaluates the quality and quantity of the groundwater system;
Analyzes associated engineering problems and determines needed data;
Provides advice on special studies to members of the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from a college with federallyauthorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelors Degree in a physical science or engineering including at least four 4 onesemester courses in hydrology geology hydraulics earth sciences or water resource management and three 3 years of analytical technical investigative or research experience in hydrology water resource management or a closely related area.
NOTE:Additional education from a college with federallyauthorized accreditation or registration by NY State in a physical science or engineering will be substituted for experience on a yearforyear basis.
**Masters Degree in a geoscience field is preferred.
This Role Is A Provisional Appointment
A provisional appointment which occurs only in the competitive class is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates
