Position Type: This position is a parttime contracted position contingent on funding with the possibility of continued employment at the end of the contract.
Hourly Rate: $23.75 hourly
If have a valid BC ECE; then eligible for ECE Wage Enhancement Program
ECE: $29.75 hourly $23.75 $6 ECEWE)
*the ECEWE $6 is separate from your base wage as it is offered directly from the provincial government. If the program is cancelled or Fernwood NRG is unable to participate your total wage will be your base wage.
Location: Fiddleheads Learning Studios; 1180 Queens Ave
Hours/work schedule: Contracted PartTime shifts are Monday Friday between 2:30pm5:30pm. Full days available on ProD Days Winter Spring and Summer Full day care.
Reports to: OSC Team Leads OSC Coordinator and the OSC Manager

Position Overview
We are seeking a valuesaligned individual that shares our inclusive child & familycentred holistic approach and is passionate about nature play based emergent curriculum to fill an Inclusion Support Worker Role. Under the direction of the OSC Manager Coordinator and OSC Team Leads this role is responsible for the 1:1 Support of a child in our Afterschool Child Care Program located at Fiddleheads Child Care for George Jay Elementary School.
This includes but is not limited to the following: writing and maintaining care plans helping the child be included in daytoday activities and working with the child to develop strategies for expressing emotions and needs and to foster positive peer relationships and friendships. The role also includes providing direction to other staff on how to best support the success of the childs inclusion and being the first point of contact for parent checkins questions and concerns.
General Responsibilities:
Uses positive behavioural guidance strategies to develop a trustbased relationship with the child.
Designs supportive environments.
Utilizes effective environmental arrangements to encourage social interactions.
Provides instruction to aid in the development of social skills.
Promotes identification and labelling of emotions in self and others.
Explores the nature of feelings and the appropriate ways they can be expressed.
Promotes the childs individualized emotional regulation that will enhance positive social interactions within the classroom.
Creates care and safety plans in consultation with the program Team Leads parents and professionals to best support the child.
Provides instruction to other childcare staff by:
Providing support and direction to staff regarding the childs development;
Ensuring staff are following appropriate behaviour and guidance strategies with the child;
Ensuring staff are familiar with care plan instructions.
Builds and maintains professional working relationships with parents and caregivers.
Attends regular meetings with the OSC Coordinator and/or Director of Childcare.
Other duties as assigned.
Professionalism & Centre Operations
Follow licensing requirements and centre policies.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
Attend staff meetings maintain punctuality carry out assigned responsibilities and other duties as needed.
Health Safety & Supervision
Ensure childrens wellbeing through active supervision and a safe clean environment.
Follow health protocols including diapering toileting and eating routines.
Administer medications when needed and maintain accurate health records.
Report all accidents injuries and illnesses following centre procedures and government regulations.
Release children only to authorized individuals.
Working Conditions/Equipment Used:
Ability to lift and move chairs tables mats etc. (up to 30lbs).
Ability to work positively in a shared work environment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work positively in a busy and loud environment.
Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
Ability to stand for long periods of time run occasionally crouch and bend frequently.
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements
Responsible Adult certification or equivalent in BC required.
Experience working directly with children aged 511.
First Aid Certified required.
Experience working with children with autism ADHD and children facing conditions of risk.
You are highly organized and reliable.
Ability to take responsibility for the position responsibilities identified above including identifying where you will require additional training or external assistance to succeed.
Ability to communicate clearly and build relationships of trust including with people with different identities and life experiences from you.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others including problem solving delegating coaching conflict resolution and other interpersonal skills.
Knowledgeable or familiar with positive behaviour support strategies.
Additional Assets:
ECEA ECE SNE certificates in BC is an asset.
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training.
Familiar with the Community Care and Assisted Living Acts Child Care Licensing Regulations.
Ability to work very well in team settings.
Ability to problemsolve and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
Ability to take initiative and delegate.
Ability to follow instructions and willingness to assume and carry out assigned tasks and to be accountable for results and actions including quality of work.
Experience with and an understanding of the importance of client confidentiality.
Professional responsive with a positive work attitude.
Other Requirements
Candidates who progress through our selection process will be required to provide the following before an employment agreement is finalized.
Must provide a record of immunization status.
Must provide two professional childcare references.
All employees within Fernwood NRG require a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check upon being hired.

Unionized Position
Fernwood Neighbourhood House is a unionized workplace and this position is part of the BC General Employees Union (BCGEU). We are currently negotiating our first collective agreement. The compensation package for this role reflects current wages and benefits with adjustments anticipated once the collective agreement is finalized.
