Job Description

POSITION: PartTime Exceptional Childrens Compliance Support Teacher

REPORTS TO: Director for Exceptional Children

SALARY GRADE: State Salary Schedule commensurate with degree certification and experience

NATURE OF WORK:

The Exceptional Childrens Compliance Support Teacher will focus on assessing and providing compliance driven support to staff across the district with a focus on responding to targeted areas of concern due to COVID. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to assist staff with IEP meetings develop Online Instruction Service and Support Plans conduct evaluations/assessments and assist with other compliance related tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure Exceptional Childrens (EC) staff follow federal state and local legal requirements
  • Assist in planning and implementing staff development to comply with special education program documentation/paperwork.
  • Train and assist staff on the development and implementation of the Online Instruction Service and Support Plan
  • Confer and communicate with administrators teachers and parents regarding the effectiveness of special education programs
  • Provide support to teachers in the development of quality IEPs for students with disabilities
  • Provide support for teachers in the initial student initial evaluation process and reevaluation data process.
  • Provide support to teachers in interpreting formal and informal assessment and evaluation data for children with special needs
  • Conduct inhouse audits of Exceptional Children student records to ensure compliance with N.C. policies as stated in Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities.
  • Serve as a resource for information regarding laws regulations and procedures related to special education programs
  • Assist teachers in timeline management to ensure compliant EC process and paperwork
  • Assist in state and local audit procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Exceptional Children

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Language Skills Ability to read analyze and interpret periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients customers and the general public.

Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills Familiarity of basic computer operation and software. Ability to learn various computer operations required for management of student information and integration of technology in classroom instruction.

Other Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on the division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision color vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files paper school supplies books etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee continuously interacts with the public and staff.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited university with certification in one or more areas of Special Education
  • Ten or more years of successful teaching experience with exceptional children
  • Valid N.C. teaching license or be able to obtain such
  • Experience in working effectively with administrators and other staff personnel
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and policies governing Special Education

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated regularly by the supervisor in accordance with Board Policy.
