Job Summary:

The Lab Manager will oversee the operations of the Excelsior lab at the Oklahoma Aerospace Institute for Research and Education supporting engineering projects and research initiatives. This role includes the management of lab resources equipment maintenance safety compliance and direct involvement in running machinery to support academic and industryfocused projects. The Lab Manager will work closely with faculty students and staff to facilitate research and educational activities.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the smooth daytoday operation of the Excelsior lab.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient workspace including inventory management of tools materials and supplies.
  • Develop and enforce lab policies and procedures to promote safety efficiency and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Operate and maintain advanced engineering machinery including but not limited to CNC machines 3D printers and testing equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of all lab equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment as necessary coordinating with external vendors as needed.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for lab safety protocols.
  • Train lab users on proper equipment operation and safety practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health safety and environmental regulations.
  • Provide technical assistance to faculty researchers and students working on engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with project teams to fabricate prototypes test designs and analyze results.
  • Stay updated on new technologies and methodologies to support cuttingedge research.
  • Manage lab budgets and assist with the procurement of equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinate lab scheduling to ensure equitable access for all users.
  • Document and report on lab usage incidents and equipment status.
  • Other duties as assigned

This position requires working in a lab environment with potential exposure to machinery noise dust and other hazards. Appropriate safety gear must be used.

This position requires occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

This role involves managing the AAM Research Fellowship Program focusing on attracting and supporting fellows through to graduation. Responsibilities include developing a comprehensive program calendar with application cycles educational events and networking opportunities. The role also coordinates the candidate selection process collaborating with faculty and industry to admit top students. Additionally it requires ongoing monitoring of fellows progress through regular checkins feedback sessions and milestone reporting.

This role involves organizing key program events like orientations capstone projects and thesis presentations for fellows ensuring they receive structured guidance. It requires aligning research projects with industry demands through collaboration with consortium partners and faculty. The position also tracks and reports on program outcomes such as research accomplishments commercialization industry partnerships and fellow placements. Additionally it gathers and analyzes feedback from stakeholders to enhance the program continually.

This role includes preparing and presenting annual reports to university leaders and external stakeholders showcasing program successes and identifying growth opportunities. It also involves providing administrative support to the LaunchPad Director and handling additional tasks as needed.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree

Minimum of three years of experience managing a laboratory or workshop preferably in an academic or research setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors degree inMaterials Science Engineering or any related field.

Five seven years of professional work experience in a related field.

  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining engineering machinery and tools.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for lab environments.
  • Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with CAD software and rapid prototyping technologies.
  • Familiarity with university research processes and collaborations.
  • Certification in lab safety or hazardous materials handling.
