The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) is seekingCivil Engineers for a current opening in the Sewage Stormwater and Restoration Construction Management team of their Engineering Services group as well as for future position openings within the bureau.

Job Appointment: FullTime
Work Schedule:
Monday Friday 8 am5 pm. An alternate schedule may be available.

As an Engineer on the Construction Management team this position will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for large diameter sewer rehabilitation and construction provide quality control reviews of municipal utility infrastructure project plans and specifications and manage large scale complex utility construction projects from the procurement phase through construction project closeout and the warranty phase. This position will also coordinate with other bureaus negotiate and execute Memorandums of Understanding and coordinate required project permits.

What youll get to do:

  • Oversee the of construction contracts ensuring the City and construction contractors fulfill their contractual obligations.
  • Verify adequate safety measures are employed within the project area to ensure the safety of the Contractors City employees and the general public.
  • Oversee the work of technicians and/or oversee and coordinate the work of consultants along with providing engineering support to other bureau teams.

To Qualify


Applicants should specifically address and demonstrate in theirCover Letter and Rsumhow their education training and/or experience meet each of the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Experience with civil engineering Construction and project management and/or contract administration and project management.
  2. Knowledge of legal guidelines for public work engineering and experience reviewing preparing or directing the preparation of complex plans specifications and legal contracts.
  3. Experience in planning and managing difficult engineeringrelated projects including performing technical research & analyzing complex engineering/mathematical problems evaluating alternatives and adopting effective courses of action.
  4. Experience communicating effectively to diverse internal and external stakeholders and ability to work collectively to promote an equitable workplace environment.
