**Note: As per the collective agreement probationary employees will receive 5 less than the regular permanent rate of the classification they are employed in until the completion of four 4 months continuous service or eighty 80 actual days worked whichever is the greater. They will then commence receiving the regular permanent rate.

The Role
Operates paint equipment to install and replace pavement lines and markings. Performs snow plowing ice control duties and general road maintenance duties on roads bridges and roadsides.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Organizes daily work per work orders and established schedule.
- Operates roadmarking vehicles with ancillary equipment/devices and portable equipment as part of a 25 person crew.
- Performs daily maintenance circle checks and completes inspection checklist. Performs preventive cleaning and maintenance (e.g. equipment paint guns greasing lines adds fluids) and troubleshoots and performs minor repairs/replacements as required (e.g. valves small hoses paint guns). Refers other servicing needs (with input for technical paint plumbingspecific repairs) to lead hand and corporate Fleet; and repairs to supervisor.
- Premarks paints applies all types of durable markings and removes line markings (e.g. centre edges lanes transition and continuity channelization barriers) intersection markings (e.g. crosswalks stop bars turning arrows) parking markings and coloured pavement (e.g. marking wording symbols) per Ministry standards and regulations.
- Loads and unloads supplies (e.g. paint glass beads). Removes/installs plow blades as required.
- Operates trucks and ancillary equipment for snow plowing salting and sanding operations including wheel loader. Uses hand tools to remove snow/ice from roadsides and drainage areas. Performs other snow/ice control activities (e.g. snow fences). Uses oxygenacetylene torches to cut metal components (e.g. bolts) when changing plow blades.
- Performs general road maintenance activities as required (e.g. patching animal/debris removal drainage maintenance brush chipping chainsaw work traffic control road patrol). Uses other equipment/small tools as required to perform duties.
- Records work orders timesheets hours of service records and other documentation in hard copy and using computerized systems as required
- Fabricates pavement marking stencils.
- Requisitions day to day supplies through stockroom and holds a pcard. Notifies lead hand or supervisor regarding other equipment and material needs. Contacts vendors to discuss purchases and receive technical guidance.
- Selects traffic protection plans and performs traffic control per Ministry standards and regulations.
- Maintains shop storage areas equipment vehicles hand and power tools pavement grinder and transit/level in a safe clean orderly manner per policies and procedures. Reports unsafe or damaged equipment to supervisor immediately.
- Provides feedback for the development of new equipment specifications regarding field suitability and fine tuning equipment for effective and safe operation.
- Backs up Lead Hand positions as required.
- Performs related duties including in other work units in the Section as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of paint types pavement marking tools and equipment (e.g. airless and air atomized equipment pressure vessels compressed air systems with diesel engines spray paint equipment paint heating systems) and roads maintenance equipment (e.g. snow plow wheel loader) acquired through a grade 12 education plus 2 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies procedures standards; field and traffic manuals; CVOR requirements; and related bylaws and legislation (e.g. Highway Traffic Act Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 traffic control plans health and safety transportation of dangerous goods minimum maintenance standards). Ability to participate in related onthejob training (e.g. propane handling crane Snowfighter First Aid &CPR spills management defensive driving).
- Communication skills to understand instructions; interact professionally with others; provide general information to the public; use proper terminology with others (e.g. manufacturers crews engineering technicians lead hand); give directions and suggestions related to field fit and emergency situations; and participate as an effective team member.
- Ability to read understand and apply plans blueprints premarkings manuals notices documentation and traffic protection plans. Ability to convert imperial measurements to metric.
- Ability to complete CVOR requirements (e.g. checklists hours log reports) purchase requisitions work orders locate books basic written communications and technical recommendations (e.g. products work methods).
- Computer skills with ability to use distance measuring devices and software such as a work management system Microsoft Office (Outlook) weather monitoring systems hours of service software and time and attendance systems.
- Ability to function effectively and safely in a variety of environmental conditions.
- Must have a valid Class D drivers licence with Z airbrake endorsement acceptable drivers abstract and valid transportation of dangerous goods certification to operate corporate equipment.
- Ability to work variable shifts including evenings and nights as assigned. Ability to work up to 14 hours per day as required.
- Ability to support and demonstrate the Regions values.
