The Energy Legal Team (ELT) provides legal and related strategic advice primarily to the Departments of Energy and Minerals and Affordability and Utilities on matters including: royalty mineral rights/tenure electricity utilities resource development resource market access dispute resolution project approvals and complex business transactions.
Legal Services Division is seeking to fill the Director position for the Energy Legal Team. This Director will have approximately 13 direct reports and will be responsible for a variety of management/administration duties. The Director will be the lead contact for all energy law issues and will efficiently manage team resources provide support and developmental opportunities to lawyers who provide legal services primarily to the Departments of Energy and Minerals and Affordability and Utilities.
Reporting to the Executive Director the Director responsibilities will include:
Legal Services Division is seeking a senior lawyer with significant experience handling complex energy and government/public law matters. Our ideal candidate will be someone with sound judgment excellent oral and written communication skills and strong time management and organizational abilities. Our ideal candidate is collaborative has a team approach has experience coaching and mentoring and successfully leading complex files with a team of lawyers and support staff.
The ideal candidate also has a strong commitment to the Vision and Values of the Alberta Public Service.

A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B. or Juris Doctor (JD). For Law degrees obtained outside Canada proof of accreditation from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) is required. You must be an active member or must have immediate eligibility for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta.
Civil Crown Counsel 5 a minimum of 11 years of related experience is required.
The successful applicant will have demonstrated formal or informal leadership experience within a government/public law environment.
