Newsbeat is the flagship news programme on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra and provides news to meet the needs of the networks target audience of 1524 year olds. Its a highly creative multiplatform team with a record for delivering original and impactful journalism for its diverse audiences.
Our Senior Journalist Reporters work on our radio and digital content helping to lead the team and drive our editorial ambitions.
This role is focused on our weekend output a mix of radio bulletins and digital and social content.
You will oversee bulletins on R1 1xtra and Asian Network and lead the weekend team of newsreaders and reporters. Newsbeats tone of voice is vibrant young and feels distinct to other BBC content. Its an ideasdriven team and youll be expected to drive creativity across the weekend.
Youll also get involved in our digital output working on written or video pieces and overseeing online reporters.
You will support the management team including the assistant editors and editors and youll need an understanding of how to curate the daily feed of agency and BBC content technically and editorially
We are looking for an experienced reporter skilled in radio and digital production techniques with a clear understanding of the role of Radio 1 and 1Xtra their target audiences and how Newsbeat can best serve them.
You should be able to evidence original impact journalism where stories have reached underserved audiences and have the ability to use creative flair to explain stories whilst maintaining standards of accuracy and impartiality.
In addition to having experience of live broadcasting and digital knowledge were looking for someone with the ability to lead teams and help to build an inclusive and collaborative department mentoring junior members of the team and giving constructive feedback to colleagues.
