The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidencebased rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.
All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical usage as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution prohibits Personnel in a SafetySensitive Position from the use of medical even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Summary
The Department of Community Correction (DCC) Parole/Probation Area Manager is responsible for management of an assigned area including budgeting and staff supervision and for serving as a contributing member of the DCC Regional Management Team. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Supervises a large professional and administrative support staff through lower level supervisors by interviewing hiring making work schedules approving leave requests adjusting grievances conducting performance evaluations and approving performance evaluation as a reviewing official. Manages the day to day operation of assigned area. Ensures adherence to established policies procedures regulations and guidelines. Monitors budgets and staffing levels. Prepares and justifies annual area budget requests. Audits cases to ensure compliance with DCC standards and court orders. Acts as liaison between DCC and the Judicial Districts statewide. Investigates complaints against area staff members and takes corrective action in accordance with policy. Creates and maintains supervisory files on staff. Conducts meetings with area personnel to share information provide training interpret implement and disseminate rules regulations policies procedures and performance standards. Explains accreditation process. Performs other duties as assigned.

Frequent oncall duty instate travel and exposure to danger are required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of parole/probation programs laws and policies. Knowledge of the characteristics of supervision and human behavior. Knowledge of court and/or hearing procedures. Knowledge of human resources and financial management. Ability to work with the statewide and departmental computer databases. Ability to plan organize and oversee the work of subordinate supervisors. Ability to communicate both in writing and orally. Ability to conduct parole/probation investigations and complete reports. Ability to qualify with firearms and exercise selfdefense tactics. Ability to make oral presentations write lesson plans and prepare written reports.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a bachelors degree in criminal justice sociology psychology social work rehabilitation counseling political science social behavioral science rehabilitation science or a related field; plus five years of experience as a DCC Parole/Probation Officer or seven years of experience in correctional work law enforcement or a related field including two years in a supervisory capacity. Must be certified as a specialized police officer by the Arkansas Law Enforcement Standard Commission as established by Act 452 of 1975 and in accordance with ACA 129106. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
