Freelancers are eligible to apply for an internal role if they are on a Worker Contract and they have worked continuously for 6 months. Our teams support studios and other production facilities digital production systems broadcast infrastructure as well as personal computing devices across the BBCs UK and international offices. We are also responsible for operational switching and monitoring live and prerecorded BBC output as well as a wide range of other production support services.
The role works as part of a shiftworking team providing 24 hour operational support incident management and stakeholder communication for a range of BBC platforms and services.
Interview process
The prime responsibility of the role is to provide 24/7 IT Support as a member of the Engineering Operations CAS Team within W1 and across other London offices. The department actively helps BBC programme makers create and deliver great content across radio TV and online.
Based in a dayside or a 24/7 shift which covers nights and weekends the team supports a range of BBC platforms including Windows MAC and MDM both on site and remotely for our International BBC Bureaux undertaking a mixture of: 1st line support calls typical 2nd line IT desk visits User Admin requests and also a customer facing Laptop Clinic. The role reports back to the Team Leader bringing their attention to any issues encountered during the course of the shift that requires escalation in order that they can assist in reaching a satisfactory resolution.
Work involves endtoend business support for systems and applications for the related Editorial/Production and Development teams ensuring duties are performed efficiently safely and to a consistently high standard.
Essential
Strong experience of working with Microsoft Active Directory and SCCM administration
Strong experience of supporting Microsoft Windows Workstation Windows 7 and 10 Strong experience of troubleshooting software and hardware issues on Windows based desktops and laptops
Experience of Microsoft Office products including strong knowledge of Outlook configuration in an operations business environment
Knowledge of support centre call logging systems.
Flexibility to travel at times with limited notice to our International Bureaux as well as events in the UK and to work occasional extended hours to deliver the job goal.
Leads the response to service disruption and supports proactive measures to prevent recurrence.
Good communication skills; Able to explain information to technical and nontechnical audiences. This includes communications to large diverse audiences following incidents and acting as the point of contact for operational management.
Provides technical leadership on issues escalated by the operational team.
Contributes to efficiency and technical improvements of the operations team.
Desirable
Experience of working on broadcast systems in a live TV Radio or broadcast environment
Demonstrable ability to communicate clearly using a range of styles tools and techniques to explain technical issues to a wide range of people
Experience of providing a high quality service in a demanding environment
Experience of prioritising conflicting requirements often working under pressure in rapidly changing situations
