Position Summary
This position provides skilled operational support to the Water Operations Branch with a focus on water distribution services. This position must be able to deal courteously with the public. This position typically reports to a supervisor.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct field investigations to identify water distribution system issues and take prompt action to minimize damage.
- Operate valves curb stops and force pumps to address leaks and clear blockages.
- Respond to and document water service line and main breaks using both written and digital reporting tools.
- Operate City service vehicles and equipment in compliance with all safety regulations and policies.
- Locate inspect and operate water service shut offs for property owners and contractors.
- Interpret technical drawings manuals specifications and work orders to guide field decisions.
- Prepare excavation maps and resource requests during offhours using mapping tools such as Arc View and IR Viewer.
- Request deployment of labour equipment and materials to support emergency repairs and minimize infrastructure damage.
- Inspect and replace water meters particularly during night and weekend shifts.
- Train and assist coworkers offering directions on equipment handling and operational procedures as needed.
- Respond to broader emergency service calls including traffic light malfunctions accident site cleanups and fallen tree incidents.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and the public demonstrating professionalism tact and strong customer service.
- Adhere to the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and City of Reginas Health and Safety Manual.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 or GED equivalency.
- Minimum of two 2 years experience in water operations with at least six 6 months in a Trades I Distribution System Services role or similar diagnosing and addressing water distribution issues.
- Strong working knowledge of Reginas water distribution system underground plans and infrastructure.
- Skilled in the safe operation of tools equipment and service vehicles.
- Ability to interpret and apply technical information regulations and safety protocols.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Physically capable of performing handson outdoor fieldwork including lifting up to 25 kg and working in confined spaces and adverse weather.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
Working/Other Conditions
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License.
- Must be able to work and enter into very tight confined and restricted spaces such as manholes catch basins crawl spaces closets etc.
- Must be physically fit to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position and ability to lift and carry weights up to 25 kg daily.
- Must complete and clear a criminal record check

- Successful candidates may be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check per the City of Reginas Criminal Record Check Policy.
- Proof of education is required.
