Description

Hennepin County Library (HCL) is seeking Youth Education Leads to work with K12 residents parents and caregivers and community and educational partners at Brookdale Franklin North Regional and Rockford Road libraries. The individuals in this position will use their skills knowledge and experience to support K12 youth and their families in meeting their education and literacy goals and will help all library patrons in accessing library collections and in fulfilling their information needs. Library Youth Education Leads will be responsible for supporting K12 education programming at their local library overseeing operation of Lets Read and Homework Help programs and providing support for other youth and family programs as needed. They will connect with schools and educators as well as internal Hennepin County partners who provide education support for residents.

Location and hours:
This position is located at the following locations:
  • Brookdale Library: 6125 Shingle Creek ParkwayBrooklyn Center MN 55430
  • Franklin Library: 1314 East Franklin Avenue Minneapolis MN 55404
  • North Regional Library: 1315 Lowry Avenue North Minneapolis MN 55411
  • Rockford Road Library: 6401 42nd Avenue North Crystal MN 55427
Work hours will include weekday evening and weekend hours. Library Youth Education Leads will be scheduled during out of school time hours when youth education programming takes place at their local library and when local school events occur.

These positions are internally classified as an Administrative Assistant.

In these positions you will:

Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • Four or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
      • General administrative work is defined as the administration and/or management of programs policies and/or budgets.
    • Bachelors degree or higher in public administration business administration political science or other field appropriate to the position.

Nice to have:
  • Experience:
    • Providing customer service to a wide variety of residents of all ages and backgrounds.
    • Engaging with K12 students and families and/or coordinating literacy programming.
    • Building and delivering community responsive programming
    • Facilitating groups and guiding them to create new processes.
    • Using project management tools to coordinate community engagement efforts and/or projects.
    • Engaging with Latine African American East African People of Color in an educational or youth program setting.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of community engagement.
  • Ability to:
    • Demonstrate commitment for a diverse and inclusive organization that reflects the residents we serve.
    • Connect with individuals from communities that the library serves.
    • Work effectively with community members of all ages and abilities from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds

Candidates with fluency in another languagein addition to English are encouraged to apply. Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual duties and pay.
