Are you passionate about problemsolving being involved in complex projects and ensuring highway safety and compliance If so we want you to help us protect and develop Albertas highways as a Development and Planning Technologist (DPT). In this role youll directly influence highway planning and development balancing stakeholder needs with safety and longterm transportation goals.
As a DPT youll ensure that developments around Albertas highways align with safety standards and support future expansion. Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager your key responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and approving roadside development and utility permits ensuring alignment with legislative standards and Department goals.
- Assessing subdivision proposals and finding innovative solutions to mitigate impacts on highway infrastructure.
- Managing access requests and conducting field inspections to evaluate development impacts.
- Issuing sign permits and ensuring compliance with safety guidelines.
- Representing Alberta Transportation in appeal hearings on highway access and safety issues.
- Collaborating with technical committees on planning and longterm strategies for Albertas highways.
- Negotiating with stakeholders to resolve conflicts and ensure compliance with development guidelines.
- Providing clear guidance and technical support to stakeholders navigating regulatory requirements.
What youll bring to the role:
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills to manage interactions with diverse stakeholders including landowners developers municipal staff and the public.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present technical information clearly draft precise reports and deescalate challenging situations with tact and professionalism.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fastpaced environment.
- Analytical skills to review engineering plans land surveys and technical documents.
- Ability to work independently while being an effective team player.
- Problemsolving ability to balance departmental goals with stakeholder needs.

Qualifications
Required:
- A related twoyear diploma (e.g. Civil Engineering Technology etc. supplemented by at least six 6 years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Highway design roadside planning and/or highway construction experience.
- A valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers Licence or equivalent.
Preferred:
- Indepth understanding of Albertas land use planning process the application of relevant Acts and Regulations and the intersection of highway safety and development projects.
- Working knowledge of road and utility construction procedures and standards.
- Familiarity with surveying engineering drawings and technical reports.
Equivalencies are:
- A related fouryear degree and a minimum of two 2 years of related experience; a related oneyear certificate and a minimum of seven 7 years of related experience; or a minimum of eight 8 years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Additional Position Details:
- This position is a permanent fulltime role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25 Monday to Friday 8:15 am 4:30 pm).
- Location: Willowglen Business Park 803 Manning Road NE Calgary AB
- Traveling within the district/region will consist of 2030 of the work schedule with occasional overnight stays.
